Today I was profiled at your store. I noticed an additional store employee standing behind me while I was in self checkout. After I paid and walked out he crossed me counting the items in my cart. It would have been more professional to ask for my receipt than to be so tacky! This Jewel is convenient but never my 1st choice due to their employees. I chose not to make a scene but trust I will not return. This was disgusting!!

Went to Jewel to purchase tomatoes ? that was on sale with the digital coupon and was told that wasn't the right tomatoes, showed the cashier and the manager that was on duty Tuesday night 10/01/2024 around 9:40pm the picture of the display in the store and the product was the manager told a customer probably put all the green tomatoes there

Kitchen staff either short or just slow...ALL THE TIME
They really couldn't care less about the customers waiting forever.
Either get them help, train them to work faster, or terminate them all and start over.
The guy making the chicken couldn't work slower...he needs a factory reset as well as the lady.
So sad to see this place get run down.
Been shopping here for over 30 years.

Great customer service, fully stocked shelves, and clean store. Very friendly employees, any questions or any help needed, the employees will help out. Amazing managers, we will be returning to the store for sure, one of my favorite grocery stores in the state.

Whether the hot food chicken is baked or fried, it’s dry or overcooked beyond human consumption.

UPDATE: I hadn't updated this review in a while, so I thought it appropriate to do so now.Generally, I am not finding the same obvious issues anymore. I have not gotten food poisoning anymore, but I also don't eat those issue foods from here. I still occasionally see a strange brown / black liquid inside the string cheeses, but hopefully more customers are checking for this before buying them. And I have stopped taking them to associates anymore because I don't really have the time anymore to provide volunteer quality assurance work. I did notice they stopped putting out as many string cheeses, so it seems like QA is at least removing the most egregious, obvious issues.Because I still occasionally find unsafe refridgerated products that could very well cause foodborne illnesses, I will not add stars to this review. But I have seen a significant improvement, so I have stopped checking their refridgerated products when I pass by, and I no longer contact the Public Health Department. As such, I won't update my review any further.Thank you, Jewel, for taking my concerns seriously and moving in a positive direction.Past review:Quality Control is a HUGE issue right now.I have shopped at this store since 2020, so obviously I had great experiences here, enough to keep me coming back. Pharmacy is awesome, most employees and cashiers are friendly, security is alert and present, managers listen well. Yes, produce is never close to the quality of Pete's Fresh Market, and depending on time of day you may not find something in stock. And the only restrooms require you to enter back of house, climb up a set of stairs, and walk through their employee break room, and it is usually rather gross in the men's restroom. But, overall, I have been satisfied with the store.Until the last few months. The whole family got food poisoning once, and my wife got food poisoning pretty bad a second time recently from cottage cheese. I have found lunchmeat discolored on multiple occasions while in the coolers. The string cheese had brown and black discoloration multiple times. Every time I go, even just for prescriptions, I show an employee the bad food and inform them we have gotten food poisoning in the past. The employees did not take it seriously, though they were willing to exchange a bad package of Buddig lunchmeat for another when I purchased it without realizing it was discolored on part of it before I realized it was a recurring issue. The food's expiration date is usually fine, so I know it is not an issue of selling expired food.I spoke with the store manager, who said they have quality checks on everything that comes into their store. Which makes me think it is not a vendor issue, but the store itself. Maybe a new employee leaves a cooler open. Or maybe something is wrong with their coolers. Or maybe food takes too long to go from a delivery truck to the coolers. I don't know the reason. If you see the picture, you can see how bad of an issue it is. This package of Lucerne string cheese was currently on the shelves right as my wife was shopping. This is disgusting. We will still buy non-cold foods and get prescriptions here, but I won't touch their cold foods anymore. Though I will say I do not know if their seafood and poultry is okay or not. But when I come in, I will check their cheeses and lunchmeat. If it is bad, I will notify a store employee. And I will create a report with 311 to the Chicago Department of Public Health. Because I have a feeling this issue can be resolved with an investigation into the problem, but I also want to keep the store accountable and help protect other customers from getting food poisoning. And I hope one day to be able to give this store 4-5 stars, but only when I am certain this huge issue is resolved. For now, I am giving it 2 stars instead of one because I do like some things with this store and want to recognize those things. But until the cold stuff is safe to eat, I suggest everyone stay clear of their cold foods. It isn't worth the potential food poisoning.
