“A classic American hardware store. Places like Lehman Midtown are hard to find these days. Home Depot and Lowes have put many small, independent stores out of business, but Lehman Midtown carries on the tradition. They have everything and maybe even the kitchen sink; yet the staff knows where every last screw and nail is in their well-stocked store. I love just walking up and down the aisles to check out all the interesting things that they sell. I highly recommend going to Lehman before hitting the big box stores. Better service, better products, better know-how.”

“I love my Ace here in Uptown! It's been here forever, and the staff is great. And it is like the TARDIS as one reviewer posted. They have way, way, way more items than any big box store, it's awesomely mind boggling. And the BEST part is it COSTS LESS!! Just take a look at the prices on their website compared to other stores. Solid PROOF. I don't even bother to go to any other stores once I saw the price differences online years ago and the selections. I'm so glad they were able to fix their store front, like the masonry and stuff, they deserved that fully. And with that area being revived, all the new buildings and rehabs I'm sure they will have even more customers. I just wish would extend their hours at least to 6pm so we could shop there after work but Saturday is fine for me for now. Thanks guys for being the best.”

“Fantastic service from Dave B. Another hardware store copied a house key for me, but it didn’t work in the lock. I could see that the key wasn’t cut properly, so I took it back to that store & showed them the problem. Instead of correcting the issue (which they told me they couldn’t do) they simply cut another key…and it was wrong again. Seeing the futility of going back to the same store, I decided to try Norwood Ace Hardware instead. I explained my issue, and Dave B cut a new key for me. He assured me it would work…and he was right. It worked like a charm, and Dave even fixed the badly cut key from the other store, so now I have an extra key. Thank you very much Dave for working your magic! I’ll be using Norwood Ace now, even if it is a bit farther from my house.”
“I had tried two sets of AAA batteries into an electronic controller. The batteries were in the original packaging. The controller still did not work. I was not sure how old the batteries were. I explained as much to Reese, who was at the register, and he immediately pulled out a volt meter and measured all eight. That was it. They were all dead soldiers. I purchased a new 4-pack, inserted then in the controller and it came to life!I have always found all the employees at J.C. Licht Ace at 725 S. State St. to be friendly and professional. It's a great store to have in the neighborhood.”

“I visited the JC Licht showroom twice and experienced top-notch, attentive and professional care each time. The first time, Meg advised me. I was looking at wallpaper for an office space, and she pointed out potential wear issues for the “papers” (i.e., linen and grass wallpaper) that I preferred. We then looked at more commercial, vinyl-coated papers, and Meg again was super helpful, explaining the pricing. She did not pressure me, encouraging me to take time and consider options.The second interaction was a telephone call with Keyaira. I had a description of a wallpaper and a photo from my first visit but could not remember the manufacturer. (A small nightmare for her.) She was optimistic and asked for a few hours to track it down. Keyaira placed a sample order for me as we exchanged emails.Today I went in and picked up the sample, meeting Keyaira in person. Again, she was super helpful as she looked at my measurements and advised me. I love the paper that I ordered.If you are considering wallpaper, I highly recommend JC Licht. I looked online for hours, but one really needs to touch the paper, see how light reflects off it and see colors without screen interference. Secondly, their wallpaper is organized by book (instead of hanging on hundreds of hangers). I found this to be way more efficient. It’s easy to open a book and quickly determine if the designer, paper texture or finish are your jam.Lastly, get a sample. I thought this extra step was unnecessary. I am glad that Keyaira insisted. It was only $2, and the sample color was a bit different from the book and photo. I still went with my choice but am glad that when the rolls come, I won’t be surprised.We are so lucky to have these brilliant women and store in our neighborhood!”
