We were given a different car than the one we had rented, the information was only given after we had paid. The replacement car had no oil, so we had to move to another car. From tomorrow we should be able to pick up the rented car, after we call, no one will bring it. We can arrange our tomorrow after the appointment there. We can plan tomorrow after the appointment there. Thanks for this horrible start in Kauai after a 24 hour journey.

I had a good experience with Dollar. The shuttle was convenient, the staff was friendly and I didn't have a problem with my reservation or my car. The car had many scratches, so I took pictures with my phone, but they didn't give me any trouble when I returned it. Overall a good experience!

After a 6 hour flight, 2 hour layover, and a 45 minute flight to get to the airport, we seamlessly got into the shuttle with minimal wait. But once we got to the dollar/thrifty, the line was well backed up. We got there at 2:30 and finally got in a car by 5:00 pm meaning we waited 2.5 hours extra. Furthermore, apparently they couldn't validate my drivers license so another driver had to provide a credit card and license. I have never had an issue with my license and if there is one they manually input the information instead of making it our problem. I feel for the workers as they seem to be grossly understaffed and severely under equipped for the job they must do. At one point the two workers running the front desk asked if their systems were lagging behind. I want to be clear that this is not an employee failure but the failure of a company that does not care about its employees or patrons.
My spouse talked to several other customers and kids were crying due to the wait. I have never had to wait longer than 10 minutes to get a rental. Lesson learned for me, I will NEVER be using a Dollar or Thrifty rental service ever again.
To the leadership at Dollar and Thrifty, please take care of your employees. Put more investment in the operation they are running. Hire a consultant and do better. If not for your customers, do it for your workers. This is egregious and inhumane.
And if you are going to make 20-30 people wait in line at roughly 15 minutes to serve each person. Put some friggin chairs out and give them a discount on their rental. Again, the average person waited 2.5 hours.

The driver that picked us up was great and super friendly. Check in was fine, we didn't have a reservation and they accommodated us. However, it was filthy and the convertible top didn't work. Upon return...website states they open at 5am, they showed up at 5:30am. Our flight was at 6am, this made it difficult to catch flight.

I didn't know what to expect after reading all the negative reviews, but we got on a rental shuttle it was my and my friend and one family. When we got there there were 4 agents and almost no line and this was around 4pm on a Saturday. I got this rental agent Skip. He offered their insurance, but I politely declined. He said they have to offer it but he was really cool, wasn't pushy for a upset. So I have to say to my surprise I had a good surprise no long lines and Skip was patient and not pushy. Thanks for a good price Dollar.

Gold member. Hertz had in past years responded very well. Last time we rented was Feb/March and we had impeccable service. We may have rented from Hertz Lihue about 20 times in different trips. We arrived this time to what it seemed a severally understaffed lot. We were the last to be taken to our car, which was beyond hot, but FAIR TO SAY the kind lady that took care of us was excellent, kind and knowledgeable. But: Our car was infested with cockroaches. We have already emptied two cans of insecticide and they are still there. Yes, is the (civilized) jungle, but we never had, EVER, cockroaches in a rental in Kauai. Disgusting. They even got into my camera carrying case. Total failure of supervision and cleaning protocols.

The car was generally great besides some exterior paint issues but the front desk quiet up sell was not. We booked online a month ago with the pay ahead option for the cheapest available vehicle. We we're excited at the desk when the clerk told us she could upgrade our vehicle to an SUV because it was our honeymoon! She provided the reciept and it appeaed to be similar to the amount on the reciept that we had paid ahead of time. I only later learned this was charges in ADDITION to what I had already paid and not my total rental cost for the vehicle. It's a shady business practice that cost us double what we were expecting to pay. I would never have paid $800+ dollars for a car when I was supposed to be paying just over $450-$500 after taxes and fees. I appreciate the manager who took time to speak with me about this but I'm very upset with the dollar's reciept policy and lack of clarifying the full rental cost of the car at the pick up counter.

They change our reservation to the Sheraton for pickup. Our flight was delayed on the tarmac when we landed, so this location going to close before we were off the plane. We called while still on the plane, and spoke with Terry at the Sheraton. She said we wouldn't make it in time, so she would make sure Dollar at the airport had a car for us. We called Dollar to confirm, they had NO cars available. Thank goodness for Thrifty to the rescue.

We were told by the Dollar employee at the counter that we HAD to purchase additional insurance to get our car. That is not true because our own personal car insurance covers us. But, we were told we HAD to in order to leave with our prepaid and much needed vehicle. We were scammed out of hundreds of extra dollars. We would like to be contacted about this. It was not right of her to make us do.

I rented a car online for two days. I paid for the car with a debit card. the site told me I would owe $56 more when I picked up the car, nothing more. I went to pick up the car, I was then informed I would now need to pay a $200 deposit. I was not prepared to pay $200 more and why could I not have paid that online too, ahead of time? They then would not use the card I presented because it was a debit card even though it had enough money to pay the $200 deposit. I had purchased the extra coverage and I had proof of insurance With USAA to cover the cost in the event of an accident but that was not enough to rent a car at Hertz. I will not recomend to anyone to rent from hertz, I canceled my reservation because of their poor customer service. I wonder if the credit card deposit is only a way for hertz to stick me with a large charge when I return the car.

Our agent who checked us in, Mike was fantastic. Unfortunately we went out to a car that hadn't been cleaned, inside and out and was damaged. Luckily I took a picture and didn't get dinged for the damage, but the cleaning is an issue. Told the return agent, and she said she'd tell the manager, but we all know how that goes. Too bad, because the price for a convertible was worth it. Just wished the car wasn't disgusting.

Don't usually review rental car places but felt I needed to since somehow this place has bad reviews. We had experience when I picked up last night. I was dropped off by the bus and immediately greeted by an agent with car keys with a complimentary upgrade. On the way back - super efficient as well. Dropped off the car and immediately got on the bus. Additionally, the bus driver was super helpful picking up everyone's bags (make sure to tip!). Overall not sure how it gets better, great job!

They gave me a van which remote key fob is very sensitive. You touch any part of the key and it opens the slide passenger door and not knowing so. Basically my door was open all night. I locked it twice to make sure and it wa s open when we came down

WORST PLACE!!!! Go to ANY alternate rental location!!! The rep assisting line asks if anyone is a gold member, and when you setup the account on the app, she then informs you its is not applicable same day. How is that even possible, as it is verifiable by actual number immediately on the app?!?! Then, rep tells me, while both, names of traveling parties are on reservation, the sole driver (second name) cannot receive vehicle. Fast forward to front desk, the clerk completely says to me, "how does that make any sense? Please, send driver in". It is quite a simple transaction, turned into a disorganized/unprofessional, unnecessarily LONG transaction. It is neither courteous not the welcome I expected from an island so frequented. There was NOTHING about transaction which posed justifying such annoyance or delay in client care.
