this resort disallowed my mother from checking into her reservation despite being an owner, because they need her husband to come check her in for her.

In all fairness, we were on a timeshare package - unfortunately, they give us the worst room they have - that being said -The grounds are lovely, all the personal that we dealt with were super, the beach is lovely, the food was fine.

We have stayed at Kaanapali Ocean Resort Villas South twice now. The rooms are strangely set up where you enter the door for your room and there is another door to get in as well as your neighbors door. You can hear everything in that area and the door slamming from our neighbors was loud each time we have stayed. While the rooms could use some improvement in cleanliness and soundproofing, the location is fantastic. We frequently spotted sea turtles and Hawaiian fish in the reef right off the resort—truly the best snorkeling experience in Maui!
The shuttle service is excellent and takes you wherever you need to go. We didn’t rent a car during our first visit and had a great time using the shuttle and relaxing at the resort. The market held twice a week offers delicious food and great souvenirs right outside.
The overall ambiance of the resort is beautiful, and the grounds are impeccably maintained. Despite the room issues, we continue to choose this resort because we spend so little time in our room, thanks to all the activities available. WE LOVE THE WESTIN KAANAPALI!

Absolutely terrible experience with this company, avoid them like the plague. Customer service was extremely disrespectful and caused just endless headaches with the whole booking process and our vacation.

Don't get a timeshare here. They over promise and under deliver. They promise one thing and then when you do what they say they say another thing. Example is check in on Friday to get your choice of room. When you check In on Friday then they say your requested room in unavailable. So bad. Do yourself a favor. Stay clear.
Rooms: They are ok. They are a bit dirty upon check-in but it just shows the age of the hotel.
Noteworthy details: Don't get a timeshare here.

We recently stayed at the Westin for the first time, and I’m so glad we chose this beautiful property for our vacation. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the stunning surroundings and the range of amenities available. The resort features a fantastic spa, a well-equipped fitness center, and four inviting pools, including a dedicated children’s pool and relaxing adult whirlpools.
One of the highlights of our stay was the Pu’uhonua cultural center. It offers a diverse array of lessons and activities, such as lei-making, traditional Hawaiian chanting, tapa design, storytelling sessions, and Hawaiian language classes. This center truly enriches the guest experience by immersing visitors in the local culture.
When it comes to dining, we enjoyed the convenience of having two onsite restaurants. Auntie Kitchen serves up traditional comfort foods with a delightful island twist, while the Paiolo Bar and Grill specializes in burgers, sandwiches, and refreshing cold beers. Both options added variety to our dining experience without the need to venture far from our room.
Speaking of our room, we stayed in a one-bedroom villa that included a fully equipped kitchen. I cannot emphasize enough how convenient it is to have this amenity while vacationing in Hawaii; eating out for every meal can quickly add up! For those looking to grab sandwiches and snacks, there’s a Times grocery store nearby. If you're in the mood for something special, I highly recommend heading south towards Lahaina to visit Foodland for their always fresh, never frozen poke – it’s a must-try!
The villas are situated on the breathtaking west side of the island, and we truly appreciated the easy access to the beach. You can walk right out to snorkel, so don’t forget to bring your gear! If you don’t have your own, local shops conveniently offer rental equipment.
Overall, the service we experienced at the Westin was top-notch, and I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone planning a visit to Maui. From the beautiful property to the excellent amenities and cultural activities, it’s truly a memorable place to stay.

If you are not a timeshare owner and pay to stay here, be prepared that you will be treated less then. If you have a discounted rate (example F&F rate), you will get the worst room they have that nobody wants. You will be told that you booked the worst room category and there are no changes allowed, even if you ask to pay for an upgrade. I pleaded to move rooms so we weren’t above the very loud HVAC unit for the entire complex next to the public park and parking lot. You could not go outside on the balcony due to the very loud noise pollution for this unit. I was told there were no options, I got what I booked despite I thought I was booking a 1-bedroom ocean view unit. It didn’t say I would be in a specific location.
With that said, the units are nice. The pool is great for a school aged child. The staff was only doing what they were told and it’s not their fault that leadership has created a difficult situation for them to deal with. If unit location is important to you and you are not an owner, book a vacation rental so you know what you are getting.
