Beautiful hand-painted and hand-sewn garments. So much variety in style and color that it was almost impossible to choose! Very inclusive in sizing as well and the owner mentioned they can do custom as well.

I've only been back from Kauai ten days, and I was pleasantly surprised that the shirt I special-ordered from Tropical Tantrum had already arrived. I am so pleased! Took a chance ordering, since they didn't have my size in stock. Rebbecca was super helpful with the selection and fit... she knew so much and was so helpful, that I asked if she was the owner of the store! When we wrote up the special order, she suggested I take a photo of the page for a record: that's brilliant! The shirt I got was exactly what I ordered; size, color, beautifully packaged, care instructions, and timely, Visit Tropical Tantrum for one-of-a-kind apparel, and great service!

I went in here today after lunch with my boyfriend. I own many dresses and skirts of similar styles and know what size I am in them. The saleswoman showed me a few dresses that were 2-3 sizes larger than I normally wear and that I KNOW wouldn't have fit me. I told her they were pretty and continued shopping on my own. She then said "I'm not really sure what size would be best" and i told her I usually wear a small or medium. In a very condescending tone she replied: "Not in our stuff. I think you need an XL." I walked right out and didn't bother to try anything on. There is nothing wrong with being an XL, but I am not and I felt disrespected to see her sizing me up and down and judging my body when I never once asked her for help or sizing recommendations. If you are in Hanalei, please take your business elsewhere. There are many other amazing stores! The saleswoman who was working today could use some retail 101. She definitely lost out on my business today.

I bought two quality dresses with jackets at this store today. Yeah, it was pricey, but the quality is worth it. The material and workmanship is from Indonesia and all the design is done in Hanalei. It's bamboo fabric. The designs are interesting. I like it that the dresses have different options like scarves and matching jackets as I tend to cover up. The saleswoman was very helpful. I know some reviewers find them to be too pushy but they are actually really good at what they do. She suggested other options, which can sometimes annoy me since I like to shop unassisted. But, by suggesting something I wouldn't have thought of on my own I wound up with a whole other outfit. I like the unique design and comfort of the clothing and am very much looking forward to wearing it.

I had a horrifying experience in this store. While I was shopping I pulled some clothes to the size. I generally wear a size 12/14 in women's. I looked at the larges - they looked small. I looked at the XL and it also looked small. I walked over to a different rack and got excited about a two piece ensemble that looked like it would be flattering on my body. When I asked the saleswoman if they had other fabrics in that two piece cut, she told me "well that's not going to fit you because it's a medium" and "maybe the skirt will because it's stretchy but you're going to have a hard time fitting into this top because it's a medium." I had already put two pieces of clothing in the dressing room to try on. She told me three or four times that I shouldn't try on this set because it "wouldn't fit me." I am a seasoned vintage shopper and buy clothes without sizes on them multiple times a month. I think I know what fits me. I put the clothes down, said thank you and left without trying anything on. For a store that has a sign that says "we have your size XS to 4X" on the outside, they're def hiring the wrong saleswoman. I was deeply shocked and offended to be body shamed in a flowy clothing store in Hanalei. They missed out on $300 of revenue tonight.

The staff was friendly, but his salesmanship was a bit forward for my Millennial sensibilities. The garments here are on the very expensive side ($86 for the less expensive Hawaiian shirts), but I was swayed when the salesman told us that each garment is hand-made and hand-painted on bamboo fiber. There is a video on display in the store that shows the process. The patterns are fairly unique. The aesthetic may not be for everyone.
