About The Douglass Theatre

Established in 1921 by Charles H. Douglass, Macon 1st Black Millionaire, the Douglass Theatre hosted early jazz and blues greats such as Otis Redding, Bessie Smith, James Brown, Ma Rainey and Little Richard while running popular feature length films and serials. Now completely renovated, the theatre continues to hosts a variety of events including film presentations, live performances and educational presentations created by youth. True to its historic reputation as a magnet for the entire community, “The Douglass” attracts a widely-varied audience for its limited run and premier films, as well as for its live performances and events. The historic Douglass Theatre is #AlwaysAPlaceForGoddShows and thriving!
