I give it one star because there is no 0. Sit and wait a long time for your pet to be cared for. This Dr. has a specialty in telling long stories about her horses; (which have nothing to do with what I was) consuming attention time to the health of your pet. She must retire to her stable. Horrible!!!

They are now a Blue Pearl Vet. I needed a lot of information to see if I would do the I131 radiation procedure for hyper-thyroidism). From the moment the phone was answered I was impressed with the courtesy and information I was given. Dr. Schick talked about what would go on during the procedure. Knowing that she has had special training and great results calmed my fears. Her assistant, Jennifer, was also very knowledgeable and went through all the information they would need before the procedure. They kept me informed throughout the time my cat was there, even sent pictures of him in his "condo" while he was there afterwards to make sure everything went well. I can't say enough great things about the Dr. and staff at this location!!

If I could rate negative stars, I would. My partner and I took our dog here starting in July 2022. Be mindful of how quickly they can get you in compared to the other dermatologists in Georgia, there’s a reason the others can’t take you for months and this practice can take you sooner. You will wait to drop off your pet for a “drop off” appointment for hours. You will be told your pet is ready when they aren’t and have to wait hours for checkout to be completed. They only had two techs, one receptionist, and one doctor when we stopped seeing them in May 2023. They do not have any after hours or on call person, so if you have something happen on their off days in relation to the treatment, you’re screwed. Our pet had an awful reaction to one of their attempted treatments (which they blamed us for and we have verified with multiple vets that it was NOT our fault and it was indeed AVS) and we had to take matters in our own hands. They will continuously push expensive procedures on you even after you’ve said no numerous times. After catching them in a lie, I decided to switch to another practice after everything we’ve been through. After switching, we realized that after going July 2022-May 2023 that they HARDLY kept any records of my dogs tests, prescriptions, and visit summaries. For reference, we went every two weeks- every month during that time period. It is required by Georgia Vet Code to maintain records of EVERYTHING for 5 years. The only reason my new dermatologist was able to not redo some tests is because I kept copies of everything. We had to physically go into AVS to get them to answer our records request. (I will be making a formal report to the board, don’t worry.) If you care about your pet, avoid this place like the plague. Almost $12k at AVS and our new dermatologist had our dog do a couple 180 on her first visit. I believe they push unnecessary treatment purely because they know the patients that go there are desperate and they have no other choice. Do your own research. Be your animals advocate. There’s always another option.

Dr. Schick is highly experienced in veterinary dermatology and, along with her caring staff, offers the best care to our cats.

So happy to have been referred here by my regular vet. Dr. Schick and her entire staff took the time to make sure I was educated about my pet's condition and are always happy to answer any questions.

Unable to set up appointmentMultiple messages from myself and my local vet. I did receive 1 call May 11th. Returned call and got voicemail prompt. Now May 17th.Got a phone call. l have already ask my vet to send referral to UGA. This has been going on for 7 to 10 days . I am sure according to the high ratings this group has excellent vetsBut, if unable to speak with anyone to set up an appointment what is the point.

My daughter is Candace Williams. She had to resort to take her French bulldog here due to skin problems. These are the best in Georgia as far as I’m concerned I’m so glad she’s getting help for Gigi. Some of her problems were withheld from the breeder, which is very sad. I highly recommend this veterinary office.

If I could give 0 stars. I would. This facility is horribly ran. My dog has a severe disease in which needs a specialist to help relieve his issues. I was too referred to this location. After 3 voice messages and 7 phone calls, I have still yet to hear from anyone at this location. How can this facility continue to be in business if they do not answer the phones or return calls? If returning a call is too much for you, then that shows how much you truly value the health of animals. If you value your pet, do NOT bring them here. Communication is clearly too hard for them. No. I do not want a call back, you've wasted enough of my dogs time. We will be seen by an actual vet that values the health of all animals. Thank you.

I cannot get anyone to contact me at all. I’ve called over and over, emailed several times, called other Blue Pearls hospitals, and our referring vet has done the same. All I’ve gotten after 2 weeks was an email to set up an initial appointment and now nothing again. One of our veterinarians told me this is how he has been treated for about a year now. He can’t get anyone to send updates on his referrals or to even call him back.

I love Dr. Schick & Jennifer. The front office REALLY, REALLY, REALLY needs to step it up!! No one EVER answers the phone. You can't leave a voice mail because the mailbox is full. In the mean time, my pet goes without his immunotherapy meds for 3.5 weeks & starts flaring up again. Which makes me have to start from the beginning with his regimen. Please, please get someone to man the front desk!! With the price we customers pay for this service we should have the ability to teach an actual person!! Please!!

I worked with this specialist in April 2022. They were able to diagnosis an issue within my dogs ears that had been mistreated for over a year. We were grateful. It was a time consuming and expensive process but it brought comfort to our long time family pet. Fast forward 7 months and the ear issue / infection has come back. It appears to be stronger this time and my pet is miserable. I have spent the last month attempting to call and reach anyone at this location. We do not live in Atlanta so a drop by is out of the question. They have not returned any of my voicemails and they have not answered the phone at any point during stated open hours. I am so disappointed. It appears that they cared about my pet in April but they no longer care. We are now left trying to take what they have done and recreate it somewhere else. This is rough on my dog and not what I would have imagined from this clinic.

I took my 13 year cat for I-131 exactly two weeks ago. The Dr. was very helpful explaining the process and so was her staff. Jennifer was great. They called me before the process and told me how everything would be handled. It's been two weeks and my Cat is feeling very good. The unknown was very stressful but they did help put me at ease. I would do this treatment again if now that I know the process. I had read a lot of reviews and that helped to. AVS did a wonderful job.

My vet sent an emergency referral, and Atlanta Vetrinary Specialists won't call me back or return the Contact Us Form online. If your pet is in need. Don't even waste your time picking up the phone. It is just wasted time for your pet. Find anywhere else!!!I left 3 voicemails and sent 3 contact us forms. And I have a referral.WHEN YOU AND YOUR PET ARE IN NEED CALL OR GO ANYWHERE ELSE. HOW CAN YOU CARE IF YOU DON'T EVEN RESPOND. HERE YOU ARE NOT IMPORTANT.

I am truly thankful for the care of my pet. Dr. Shick and the techs are very knowledgeable and they explain everything in detail. My only suggestion is that there should be somebody at the reception desk during office hours as I have waited a significant amount of time to be helped and it was very frustrating on more than 1 occasion.

I like the idea of the radioactive iodine treatment for hyperthyroidism for teenage cats. However if your cat has had this condition for longer than about 12-18 months, I would say lean towards palliative care for your cat. Our cat passed away less than 3 weeks after treatment. This treatment is a lot on an old body. Extended bouts with hyperthyroidism thicken the heart walls, weaken the kidneys, and tax the liver. I had not been told about this except by the vet on the phone the night before. But after my cat passed multiple vets acted like these symptoms were very common. The radiation treatment slows thyroid and suddenly all these issues come to the surface. A tell tale sign of this happening is if your cat has recently had a change in her bowels or ability to handle certain foods. Our poor cat had been moved to a restricted diet, and she could not have many of her favorite foods due to them disagreeing with her. This was a sign the hyperthyroidism had taken too much toll on her body. Atl vet specialist will tell you a positive outcome rate of 95% but they don’t break down that data by any stratification. I suspect that if stratified, most of the 5% of failures would be cats that has hyperthyroidism for more than 12-18 months before treatment. It’s unfortunate our previous vet did not know of this treatment and it took us so long to get a second opinion. Our cat passed away less than 3 weeks after treatment. Your vet is probably overly optimistic about your cat’s chances of recovery unless your cat has not had hyperthyroidism symptoms very long and preferably is under 15 years old. I would not put a cat that has had extended hyperthyroidism or is older than 15 through this. Just make them comfortable for the inevitable.
