Yesterday was my first time going to an Ulta Beauty Salon and it was a fail. Tarnya was my stylist and although she was very sweet I was very unsatisfied with the job done. I went in with a blowout appointment. I have thick straight hair so I understand how my hair is more complicated to do a blowout but that’s why I went to a salon instead of me trying to do it. That being said if she wasn’t going to be able to do it she should’ve just recommended something else instead of waisting both of our times. The blowout only had the slightest curve at the end and the rest was pin straight (as that’s my regular hair). Definitely not what I asked for or wanted. She even realized herself that’s not what I was expecting and she said that it was due to my hair being heavy and Ulta not having the appropriate products. It looked so bad and I was going to a party that afternoon so I ended up asking for her to curl it (which I could’ve done at home). Payed $80 total ($45 for the blowout and $35 for the curling. Very disappointed and will not be going back.

Donna the manager was very helpful to me. She took her time to answer my questions on products and how to get the most out of them for my beauty-hair goals. She made such a positive impact on my store experience. The store overall is very clean and organized. Jenise was very kind at checkout and efficient.

You should literally go here just to meet Amy! She is amazing. Took the time with me to listen to my needs, concerns and TEACH me about products. Kind enough to show products in multiple price ranges, express patience with my lack of knowledge in beauty and skincare.

After having my daughter my hair was so long and dry that it urgently needed a cut. I loved how Bridgett cut it!! They were all very sweet and kind to me. I took my 2-month-old daughter and they all went. Very attentive, thank you for that ? I only would have loved them to have coffee ☕️ in the hairdressing area

Highly upset that I was sold a USED Tarte concealer. I questioned it at the register bc the package WAS NOT SEALED. Cashier assured It was not used. I got home and took product out of package that was not sealed and the concealer applicator appeared used not new and little to no product in tube. ULTA I will be returning and opening everything before I purchase!!!!! Highly upset and pissed CUSTOMER!!!!

I’ve never been more livid in my life to actually leave a review. But here I am, as a boyfriend to a lovely woman with type 4C hair, writing a review to warn others about Clarissa and how she rudely and lazily “straightened” and “trimmed” my girlfriends hair.
I know nothing of how hair salons work, so I accompanied my girlfriend because she was so ecstatic about booking an appointment after wearing braids for months to help grow her hair. We moved recently so she had been longing for a new stylist to help her. She said she needed a confidence boost. I was happy for her newfound excitement.
We enter the store’s salon section and lo and behold, enters Clarissa. Right off the bat, I notice the look she gives to my girlfriend’s hair and told us with an horrible attitude, “It’ll be a while.” I felt something was off and I looked back at my girlfriend as I joke with her to ease her mind. Clarissa eventually comes back and doesn’t talk to us as she sits my girlfriend down in this awkward silence. I go to the little chair and watch as I could tell she’s nervous by how she’s being treated.
I look back at her occasionally as she gets her hair washed for what felt like forever before the actual hair styling starts. Her face spelt out that something was wrong. I notice how the other ladies are striking up lovely conversations about annoying husbands and sons, places to go and see, drinks to have at nice little bars, etc. Not a single conversation was held or told at my girlfriend’s station as Clarissa proceeded to ignore her and have a face that revealed only how bothered she could be that she had to straighten this woman’s hair that laid before her.
Eventually we leave and I ask my girlfriend what’s wrong as I notice she’s silent. I see immediately that a couple wild strands at the top of her head, even after being straightened, are cut extremely short and sticking out of all directions. I ask her what happened and say I’ll go talk to the hair stylist.
She refuses to tell me until we get into the car AFTER she’s done paying around $200 and still tips $20 out of PURE courtesy. As we’re in the car, I later learn how this was supposed to be a straightening and hair dyeing. Except, Clarissa informs her that “Clarissa doesn’t have time for that” and can only straighten her hair today.
I ask her how the experience was overall and
she tells me how the entire time she heard Clarissa mumble angrily to herself and made a “tsk” noise multiple times and how uncomfortable the experience was. As if she was bothering Clarissa, a hairstylist, to brush and straighten her hair. Clarissa later breaks silence and asks if she should trim the hair to which my girlfriend said yes as there were damaged/split ends.
She pulls her straightened hair to show me and I notice just how much shorter it is compared to how I normally know because she’s had her hair straightened before where it’s reached her bosom. She tells me how Clarissa cut off 2-4 inches off as her hair rests much further up on her chest whereas it was much longer before this visit. I insist that I’ll talk to someone but she is too upset and prefers that we go on with our day. She puts her hair up in a bun to ignore it.
It isn’t until we get home and my girlfriend looks in the mirror that we both notice that one side is uneven as if it was a sloppily done rush job. She bursts into tears and says this is her hair length back in 2020. For a black woman with type 4C hair, this will take years to grow back to the size it was once. She also tells me through tears how sad she was the entire time as she wished to be one of those other ladies getting their hair cut as their stylist was speaking to them the entire time and having an enjoyable experience because this was supposed to be a special thing to help her confidence. Instead, it has been a nightmare.
So now, here I am, writing a warning for any woman, black or white. Don
