It never fails every time we have to go it's a mess. Today we showed up 20 min early checked in with machine sat down for 1 hour waiting, then got up to check if issue and the guy put us in that we just showed up then. Few min later we hear of No their not bumping or squeezing into other peoples time. Then few min later got called up to be told we were late and can't fit in. I had to intervene and explain how we were there for over hour and they were not thrilled that we stood up for ourselves. But really it's a big to do for us it's not easy to go through a VA appointment day. We were there not like we lied I'm not going to be told we messed up and we need to rescheduled. Finally, another person who works there was called up and told issue and she noticed and realized we were sitting there for long time. If it wasn't for that one employee saying they saw us there for long time we would have had to reschedule and come again. Got in to see dr but an attitude was very present probably because I intervened in the conversation, but if someone doesn't stand up for someone then people will always get pushed around. Besides that other people had gotten called up and they greeted person who called them up and they ignored them, the guy repeated what he said till a reply was given. These are vets and are used to order and respect it's werd to see them act professional and be treated unprofessionally. Plus when pulling into the lot they have tent that people ask you if you have symptoms which they don't check by taking temps just believe anyone and flag through. NO PARKING, Not Enough at all. So inside there are a lot of employees that are sneezing and coughing and complaining about chills. I doubt these people were checked when they pulled in to park. And not for nothing if it's allergies or just a cold then they really should be home till not actively showing symptoms. Most of the people seeing doctors here are very old and at high risk. God forbid it is Covid Symptoms. Employees need to be screened better. If trying to seek dental or vision appts forget about it. It's a battle. They make more excuses then they help. Nothing ever goes smoothly here. It's a stressful process for vets to go through. And I'd be worried if your health is at risk coming to this environment. Sad because people are coming here for help. Private doctors are a better way to go if possible.

Care has improved over the past 4 years. Mentàl health has more funding to actually help where as in the past they would discharge you to the streets. Claims still has areas of improvement as many are still denied without merit. Medical care has long wait periods. Staff is extremely friendly and respectful towards Veterans. This facility is one of the best in the country. Veterans come from all over the country and that speaks volumes.

11/02/21_Since having my healthcare at Bay Pines VA, I have experienced some very good care. That care came when I have been to the ER and the care and service was exceptional. My best experience is with the Eye Clinic. The group there from the Medical Persons to the Front Desk Employees has always been very professional and pleasant. Also need to include the Optical Dept & Employees. *****/5-STARS TO ALL ABOVE. I did request from my VA Primary to see an ENT Doctor because of the condition inside my ear maybe like 4-yrs ago. The ENT Doctor looked at my ears and said I was fine. So this year took advice of a friend & used my Medicare & saw my Primary at Bay Care. When he saw inside my ears, he recommend I see an ENT Doctor there at Bay Care. Got appointment in 2-days. This doctor said I have a Dermatitis condition in my ears. Ordered a prescription and in just 1-day this dermatitis condition has cleared. Ointment to use for a month. Yet at the VA 4-yrs ago or more I was told my Ears were fine. Seems Veterans expecting all healthcare done by the VA, y can't be done. You have to see a Medicare Doctor that really cares about you and your health care. I did find out this year 2021 from my Medicare Consultant, the our VA Pharmacy does accept 'prescriptions' from our Medicare Primary. Only condition is they have to be on a "Written Prescription". VA Pharmacies don't "TRUST" Electronic Prescriptions that these NEW Clinics use. Can't get the proper diagnose from some VA Doctors you have to go outside the VA for medical help. So VA does not trust electronic progress and saying they don't 'trust' Medicare Doctors.

This is a place where virtually always, the Servicemember is recognized and thanked, including speaking with a scheduler. And some, as it says in the movie, Cheers, remember your name and make you feel glad you came.

This is the worst place on the planet! Went to the ER. They asked for a urine sample and as I was being discharged it was still sitting on the sink in the room I was in...8 hours later and unlabeled. Dr. Hahn (sp) is the worst Doctor I have ever seen. I know it sounds dramatic but I mean the worst in my ENTIRE LIFE. He didn't listen to anything I was telling him. He was in a hurry to leave. Just a pathetic experience. He literally acted like what I was saying didn't matter. For instance, I have 11 stitches in my mouth. I told him about it and he shoved a tongue depressor into my mouth and under my tongue hitting my stitches when I literally JUST told him they were there. I should have screamed at his little troll a$$ instead of being polite while miserable. I had to go back to my follow up and It was the EXACT same experience. I went out and bought civilian insurance so I don't have to go back. I would trade all of my military service to never go back to this location.

Been getting care here for many years now, my Father (a WWII & Korea Vet) till he passed quietly at 90 after a week in the hospice ward. I've never had anything other than praise and respect for all the medical and technical staff providing my care. If you're a Veteran you would be foolish to not take advantage of VA Medical care.

Superb VA. Always very kind, patient, and helpful. Clean facilities, professional staff, and beautiful buildings - seriously! Spanish revival architecture or something along those lines. If you have to go for a Dr appointment, may as well make it somewhere beautiful to visit. For those who feel entitled or otherwise inclined to poo-poo the services provided you at greatly reduced fee's OR no cost... Please take a moment and appreciate how good we have it.

I have been in the care of Bay Pines VA for almost 4 years now. I continue to be impressed at the level of patient care. Having some health issues, it is wonderful that my doctors talk to each other. Their recent effort in getting veterans and their caretakers vaccinated for covid was extremely well organized and culminated in more than 700 vaccination deliveries a day! I think their service to vets is top notch.

There are many good things this hospital does that shows they care for veterans, but there are also things this hospital does that violates the HIPAA laws governing information privacy. One thing that recently caught my eye was the screener at the front entrance to the clinic. According to the rules governing the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), the following is the rule of law. "The Standards for Privacy of Individually Identifiable Health Information ("Privacy Rule") establishes, for the first time, a set of national standards for the protection of certain health information. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services ("HHS") issued the Privacy Rule to implement the requirement of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 ("HIPAA").1 The Privacy Rule standards address the use and disclosure of individuals' health information--called "protected health information" by organizations subject to the Privacy Rule -- called "covered entities," as well as standards for individuals' privacy rights to understand and control how their health information is used. Within HHS, the Office for Civil Rights ("OCR") has responsibility for implementing and enforcing the Privacy Rule with respect to voluntary compliance activities and civil money penalties. A major goal of the Privacy Rule is to assure that individuals' health information is properly protected while allowing the flow of health information needed to provide and promote high quality health care and to protect the public's health and well being. The Rule strikes a balance that permits important uses of information, while protecting the privacy of people who seek care and healing. Given that the health care marketplace is diverse, the Rule is designed to be flexible and comprehensive to cover the variety of uses and disclosures that need to be addressed. This is a summary of key elements of the Privacy Rule and not a complete or comprehensive guide to compliance. Entities regulated by the Rule are obligated to comply with all of its applicable requirements and should not rely on this summary as a source of legal information or advice. To make it easier for entities to review the complete requirements of the Rule, provisions of the Rule referenced in this summary are cited in the end notes. Visit our Privacy Rule section to view the entire Rule, and for other additional helpful information about how the Rule applies. In the event of a conflict between this summary and the Rule, the Rule governs." Here is the HHS.gov web site link for the entire HIPAA laws language. I re-posted the above excerpt from the HHS web site because when all veterans stop at the entrance their forehead temperature is taken by the person at the desk. They then give a very public medical decision of your health status in front of all other veterans and spouses and sometimes vendors waiting to enter and standing in line not including all veterans sitting nearby who can hear this. If you show a higher than normal temp, they (and all other greeters) then very publicly make an on the spot medical decision that you are unhealthy, contagious and refuses you entrance for your appointment and in front of everyone standing in line. This can be an extremely embarassing and humiliating experience and for those veterans with PTSD or anxiety, this can elevate their symptoms. #1. The greeter most of the time sits in his chair and asks the veteran to lean into him (Bowing) in order to take your skin temp. He does not know if veterans have balance issues, back problems, in your bubble closeness issues or any other medical problem that may be exacerbated by leaning forward when all he needs to do is get off his lazy A$$ and stand up. #2. These screener's then ask you for private medical information in front of other veterans, spouses, people coming and going and vendors standing in line. They ask "why are you here today" when that is neither his business

Went to Bay Pines ER yesterday. Been having an infection for 2 weeks. Loss of appetite, some fever, other symptoms. Was afraid it was something serious. No Covid!! After admitting me and hooking me up to all the stuff, they did x-rays, catscan, etc. Insides all ok but blood numbers showed some infection. No real cure for unknown infection. Gave me anti nausea med. Have to let it run its course which I hope it has. Feel better today just tired. Trying to get appetite back since I've lost over 10 pounds. They did a wonderful job. Everyone was very professional. The lady doctor could be better with her bedside manor. She acted like I was making it up after driving 70 miles up there and coming off a 9 day fever! Can't make that up. Overall everyone working at the ER did a great job. Thank You

I continue to be disappointed and disgusted by the service at this VA. My heart goes out to all of the Veterans in the area who are subjected to the lack of care and concern provided by this hospital (especially in the ED). It seems over the past 6 months every time I bring my grandpa to Bay Pines there is a new screw up from contact info to scheduled appointments. In one circumstance I got a phone call and text reminder about my grandpas's appointment the following day. We showed up only to learn it had been cancelled. Now in the past week we have had to use the ED in order to get him care, and the conditions are an embarrassment. Both times, no one has been outside to help my grandpa and me. I have to park the car in another lot, go into the hospital and get a wheelchair to take the curb, pull up to the curb and help my grandpa, leave him outside alone while I park, then bring him in. Other patients complain they have been there for 5 hours and we are watching as staff play on their phone (I came very close to taking a picture and exposing the negligence). There are no cups for water and my grandpa has a very hard time standing- unfortunately he can't access the water fountain from the wheelchair. And then, we had to go pick up his medication clear across the hospital, which he (my grandpa is 94 by the way), would have never been able to do without my help. Who's genius idea is it to have the pharmacy on the opposite end of the ED. There is no thoughtfulness or organization effort put into this hospital. The lack of empathy and efficiency is something that should keep the leaders up at night.

Terrible. Just awful. More to come. Bariatric in Bay Pines bariatric does nothing but lie. I was told I would get weight loss surgery over ten years ago at the other VA's. This one has done nothing but hold things up, say one thing to my face and another behind my back. I guess they figure I'm so stupid from all of their drugs over the years that I'll keep wasting my time. Vets know the truth. The squeaky wheel gets the grease and it isn't helpful to have people who cannot tell the truth.
