In 2002, the Port of Washington Yacht club was formed in an effort to create an environmentally friendly river system for social cruising events. The POWYC aims to promote river cleanliness and boating safety by hosting social events, networking, and maintaining active membership in organizations such as the Potomac River Yacht Clubs Association
