Excellent location, great guest staff, provided great customer service throughout the stay. This hotel and the room was one of the cleanest hotels I have visited in a while. Close to DCA Airport and restaurants within walking distance. 10/10, highly recommend this location/hotel.

I had the pleasure of staying at the Salamander in DC for my birthday weekend. I was upgraded to a one bedroom suite with a great view. The room was amazing: very clean, spacious, and quiet, but what really earned them this 5 stars review was the service. As a black woman, I am always wary of going to high-end establishments for fear of being treated a certain way, but the staff here made me and my guest feel so welcome!! From the first greeting as we made our way inside, to recognizing my birthday at breakfast, I can not put into words how wonderful they made my staycation. Thank you!

Not impressed for a five star hotel. When I checked in someone had used the bathroom and not flushed ugh. That in itself was bad. The remote for TV did not work, blow dryer only blew cold air and when I requested a new one - no one came - after two hours and I had go to the front desk with the blow dryer where they proceeded to tell me they could not do anything with it and for me to take it back to my room, it was another hour before I got a new one. I was on the 3rd floor and elevator would not go down most days. We had to get on the elevator going up to get to the lobby. You can never get anyone to answer the phone and after I checked out I emailed them because I left something in the room and no one responded back. I would have been pissed if I had paid for the room myself (it was a business trip) I wont stay there again - business or personal.

My first experience at a 5-star hotel was generally good, but I expected a bit more. I requested flowers for my fiancée’s birthday, and while they were beautiful, they seemed a bit aged—perhaps a day or two old. The bed was made with a regular sheet instead of a fitted one, which isn’t an issue in itself, but it wasn’t tucked in properly, and we ended up sleeping on just the mattress cover by mistake. The sheet also had a noticeable tear. One day, the lobby had an unpleasant sewer-like odor, which was a bit off-putting. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, but we anticipated a more polished experience for a 5-star hotel.

The Salamander franchise remains undefeated in hospitality. The venue is breathtakingly beautiful and the rooms are exceptional yet approachable. I enjoyed the soaking tub and it’s beautiful staging in the bathroom! I also thoroughly enjoyed my dinner. The chef honored my requests and my food was exceptional and it arrived hot! They also delivered my tea before bed. It’s not cheap to stay for, but the Salamander is a testament to the finer things in life…and that what you pay in money you will be rewarded with an invaluable experience. I cannot wait to return!
PS: It is VERY close to DCA!

Eskedar was phenomenal and knowledge. She assured my stay was memorable. Wubi was wonderful and was very attentive in assuring my items were taken to my room as well as obtaining transportation for me in a timely fashion. Malik was also helpful and eager to take my items to my room. Each time I have stayed at this location, the services and accommodations have always supercedes my expectations.

Lovely hotel in a great location in Southwest DC. This was formerly called the Mandarin Oriental hotel, but was renamed the Salamander in 2022.
About a ten minute walk from the National Mall and a fifteen minute walk from the Wharf, the Salamander is conveniently located—whether you’re in town for business or pleasure. I was able to run on the Mall in the mornings—up to the Lincoln memorial and back—and enjoyed a quick walk to the Wharf for excellent lunch and dinner options. The hotel is also a short ride to DCA, making travel convenient and easy.
The hotel has plenty of amenities, including 24-hour room service, and provides an altogether luxurious experience. Highly recommend.

It's a beautiful hotel. Clean, pleasant, everyone is extremely nice and always apologetic (for reason and without). However, for a 5 star hotel, there are a number of things that we found deficient.
1) We were seated in the lounge and waited 30!! minutes for a waiter to come us. Had to flag someone down.
2) Checked in on my birthday, and no one had even acknowledged that fact
3) Some lights in the room did not work from the remote control by the bed
4) using instructions on the TV, the connectivity to the phone did not work. Both iOS and Android
5) During breakfast, there were tons of crumbs next to our table on the carpet. Felt like a cheap diner. Also the breakfast buffet selection is PATHETIC!!! Especially for the price of $39.
To me, they are a solid 4 star but not a 5 star property.

Over all it’s a nice hotel, but I wouldn’t consider it a luxury hotel. Staff was very nice, and provided good service. Our room was sub par. The tv didn’t work correctly most of the time. The Wi-Fi was very slow. The toilet didn’t flush correctly and eventually backed up. The shower very low pressure, and very slow drain. When I called for the toilet and mentioned the issues with the shower, he fixed everything quickly and worked perfectly for the rest of our stay.
Walkability: Real good location, very close to the metro, which I highly recommend

The service of the Salamander Hotel was excellent. I arranged a surprise for my girlfriend on her birthday and she loved everything. Mara and Jennifer went above and beyond with the requested arrangements of flowers, balloons and a very well crafted cake.
If you're staying at the Salamander definitely go to the restaurant inside called Dogon. The food and service was great!
Thank you Salamander Hotel Staff.

A very bad experience. After checking in, I entered the room. After using the toilet, the toilet flushed very slowly. When I pressed flush again, the water in the toilet overflowed into the entire bathroom. I had to leave the hotel first and call them to deal with it urgently. After three hours, I came back and found that they had taken care of the toilet, but the disgusting bathroom was not cleaned. As shown in the attached photo, it made me feel very uncomfortable. I think their service quality is really poor. Even though the location is good, I recommend that you don't come to this old and very expensive hotel.
