“If the package you are looking for is a lot of boose and kittens! Well, you are only getting the first one. Unless you get fat orange cat, witch is boose... so I guess both then.”

“A gem tucked into East Haddam! I stopped in while driving through the area in hopes of finding a great little Mother’s Day gift. What I found was an amazing little wine and spirits shop owned by the most knowledgeable and hospitable couple. Brendan & Kelley bought this shop about a year ago they said and have totally transformed it from a local package store to a tourist attraction because of their selection and location. Right in the heart of downtown. If you’re looking for something special or looking to try something new, stop in and let them share their world with you!”

“I love this place. These guys have an awesome assortment of liquor we have nothing in Bristol area like these guys do here. We got these thin tall cans of mixed drinks and they tasted great. I had vodka in mine other people had a tequila one and one had run tequila and vodka in it. Other than drinks this place has good prices and decent staff. The manager there was really nice she had a major upsale because she told me a out these drinks. She was helpful and kind. The place is in a good area and plenty of parking too. Don't charge for bags which really means a lot. That tells me that they care more about their customers than making an extra buck.”

“Very clean and organized with a beautiful side room for wines, etc. Very knowledgable staff will help you with any selection you might need from wine to bourbon to anything in their selection.”

“My favorite go-to beverage spot in town. It is a small place with a nice selection of wines and a small craft beer cooler. I always find something new and exciting to try in addition to what I actually walked in for! There is also a small selection of spirits, including some choice scotches as the owner is a big fan. If you have something specific you are looking to get a hold of, Eric is always more than happy to find it and bring it in for you. Throw in the fact that sometimes you get to see and pet his sweet bulldog always makes for a happy stop! Love my local spots!”

“UPDATE... I went back in and spoke to the gentleman with whom I had the bad experience. He explained himself and I explained myself as well. We cleared the air and I went ahead and made the purchase I intended on making in the first place. All good now.

Got to tell you I'm torn about this review. I moved up here from New York few years ago. I spent the prior 12 or so years in the wine and liquor business. Had a blast. I was one of the founders and the general manager of St Mark's Wine and Liquor in the East Village and I was the manager of Juice Box wines in Windsor Terrace until COVID forced me out of working in retail.

When we moved here I found this shop a few miles from my house, and I was very happy because they have a truly impressive very well curated selection. It's a very pretty shop.

Last year my new community asked me to do a wine tasting event for them because they knew I was in the business. So I bought quite a few cases for the event. I actually bought way more than I needed and ended up sitting on the wine and drinking it slowly over the next year with friends and neighbors. I paid for that event out of my pocket including the foods that I used for tasting education.

My community asked me to do it again. I really had no interest in doing it but I have such a great bunch of neighbors that I knew they would appreciate it. They said they didn't want me to pay this time so they said they would give me $10 a person towards the event I told him I can make that happen. I figured I would pay for any overages. We had fun last time and I'm sure it would be fun again.

I went back to Country Roads Wines, picked out a few bottles that I thought would be interesting. Just went back to pick them up or order them I should say... The proprietor actually suspected that I was reselling the wines. He actually thought that I was going to make some sort of fortune selling four cases of wines marked up about a dollar a piece or so. We're talking vino Verde here folks...$8 retail bottle... How can he even suspect that this is my scheme. What kind of absolute loser moron would come up with a scam of buying a couple of cases of $10 white wine to resell for profit? I can't even do math that would make that make sense.

Anyway I am completely embarrassed at this point. I can't believe that anybody would suspect me of anything... I get it and I understand these guys have to protect their business but holy cow... It's one thing that they never really made me feel welcome there maybe because a New Yorker and my telling them I was in the business came across as bragging...(I've been told by more than one person that they hated me when they first met me and then they eventually realized I was just joking around or they eventually realized that was a very nice guy... Seriously three different times that happened to me so I get it when people get the wrong first impression), even though I complimented their selection and spent hundreds of dollars in the store... I just feel sad that somebody would think that of me.

What's worse is this proprietor seems to know people in my community and all he had to do is ask anyone who knows me if I'm on the up and up. He even mentioned a friend of mine by name... if you knew her he could have asked her between last year and this year if I was on the up and up. I've worked my whole 60 years of my life to keep a spotless reputation. I'm not mad at the guy I'm just really sad that someone would think that of me and I'm kind of embarrassed to walk back in there. I don't seem to have a way of clearing my reputation.

My wife recently threw me a surprise 60th birthday and when people asked what they should get me as a gift one of the two places she thought of regarding gift certificates was this shop the other was a restaurant.

“This is a great full service package store. It doesn't look like much from the front of the building, but when you walk in, the wine selection is extensive, the cold case has a massive selection of beer and the liquor is very well priced. They also have a tasting bar.”

“Love this store! Always a pleasure to go in and see the owner John and his exceptional staff Shannon! So many unusual items to purchase! If you're looking for something that's not in stock, they will order it and have it for you in a day or two!”

“Great service, selection and cleanliness. Small-town feel, but it's a big store. Parking is great. They just need a stoplight up that would make it way easier to get out of their parking lot.”

“We just stopped into Big Gary's Colchester, our ole faithful for a great beer selection! The staff are always so helpful but tonight, Anthony was amazing!!! Anthony offered many suggestions, you could tell he loves his job! To my surprise he said he's only worked at Big Gary's for approx. 10mons.”

“Been coming here for years, my preferred store. Well stocked and the store clerks are always pleasant, professional and helpful. If you can't find something, it's never "it's found over by that wall", they'll walk you to where it's located in the store. Thank you for great service.”

“Broadway is my favorite liquor store in Colchester. They employ college aged kids who are very knowledgeable about various products. I'm mainly a bourbon / scotch drinker and they carry a great selection, especially peated single malt scotches like Laphroaig and Ardbeg, the latter selling for $60 a bottle which is very affordable. I routinely discover rye's there that I have never seen before.”

“This is a great store if you are in the area camping, they have reasonable prices and a fair selection of what you need fro the weekend. If you are on the hunt for that rare bottle this is not the place, if it is the place they had that rare bottle hidden when I was there.”

“There are five package stores in East Hampton, and Cheers has by far the best craft beer selection. It's well curated for a small store and organized well. The owners have never not been helpful to me when I had a question or needed a recommendation.”
