Dear Kristina, I write this because I think everyone deserves to know why. I’m quitting, consider this my two week notice but don’t expect me to be back. In the past several months I’ve been busting my hump to be the best aquatics specialist of any petco ever. I have the knowledge and I actually care which is not common in big box. I’ve boosted sales, assortment level for fish, and built a returning customer basis that has always been growing. People trust me and I always do my best in every aspect of my job. And you have just continuously treated me like garbage, like worthless junk, not even worthy of a 5 cent raise in your own words. Thousands of people have supported me on Reddit telling me I deserve better and that incompetent, lazy, and negligent management would be my downfall so here we are. You’ve successfully chased away the best aquatics specialist this store has ever had or ever will, you chased away someone who cared and wanted better. Good job. You talk about respect, you need to earn respect in my world. And so far you’ve only lost it over time. You don’t know the first thing when it comes to be a leader or a manager, even after 30 years. Leadership isn’t about barking orders and making demands, treating everyone below you like trash. It’s about being on the front line taking hits with them, doing the nitty gritty work with them, ya know, leading by example. You need to have their back and they’ll have yours. People aren’t just worthless peons so no you don’t get my respect because you don’t deserve it. I’m sure you’ll chalk this up as “your generation just doesn’t want to work” but I really did, just not for you.

They have a very limited brand variety. And upcharge all of their products compared to the pet smart across the street. Pet Smart also has sales on top of their already lower prices. Would HIGHLY recommend going to Pet Smart and skipping Petco all together. Waste of time and money.

I’ve shopped at Petsmarts and Petcos all over town for years and holy mackerel am I never going back to this one. The guy at the register, Joe, was condescending, pushy, and INCREDIBLY abrasive in trying to upsell me on a Vital Care membership the way a used car salesman tries to sucker someone into buying a 1975 Oldsmobile with its engine block full of sawdust. I must’ve told him no ten times, and he wouldn’t let it go before he told me, “you must not like saving money.” Bro, I definitely like saving money. In fact, I love it. It’s my favorite.
I always try to give anyone working retail or food service the benefit of the doubt, but this guy was the worst.

I don't recall ever having a good experience here. All I got was attitude. The most recent time, I tried to use a $25 coupon I received through 24petwatch. They told me the register said it was expired, then the next guy said the coupon would expire in a few days, but it had already been used. He wanted me to come back the next day to talk to the manager.
It snowed for 30 hours, so I called after the snow to find out if the manager was there (on a Sunday.) The guy I got on the phone told me I had to come in during business hours to talk to the manager, but the manager (apparently "Christina) would be busy with meetings all day. Then he told me the coupon was a scam or something. I've looked online, and Petco does, in fact, have a relationship with 24petwatch, per multiple press releases.
At this point, even if they honored the coupon, I would probably never shop there again, having shopped across the street where they've always been friendly. I just cannot stress how disappointed I am with Petco. I consider them "three time losers" at customer service. It's just not worth anymore hassle for a $25 coupon. I intend to avoid them and 24petwatch from now on.
PS: I read a lot of the reviews and many people had the same experience with rudeness at this store, including attempting to adopt a pet, which was my previous experience. I ended up going to Cat Care Society instead, and I didn't regret it.

I was at the Petco store to do an educational tabling for Bailing Out Benji. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I purchased a few markdown items for a very good price. I appreciate the opportunity to talk to people in Petco about the puppy mill to pet store pipeline in Colorado.
