We love River Canyon! The Waldorf curriculum is not only developmentally appropriate, but allows my child to learn in nature. He loves the nature walks and being outside every single day. Young children learn best through play and at River Canyon they are given plenty of playtime. The snacks provided are healthy, nutrient dense foods like vegetable soup and golden porridge (millet). All of the teachers are incredibly caring and kind. The one down side is the price, but you can choose half days or just a few days a week instead of going all 5 days full time. If you do decide to go all 5 days full time it really is well worth the money you will pay because they are focusing on the entire child from conflict resolution with friends, to learning how to paint, to how to count. I feel really grateful for the opportunity to send my child to River Canyon.

We have had wonderful experiences sending two of our children to River Canyon over the past several years. The teachers are kind and caring and deliberate in all the lessons that they prepare, focusing on nurturing the children through play-based learning. We highly recommend this school!

As educators, we have been increasingly concerned about the rigorous academics that have been expected of young children in schools. We were looking for a safe environment for our kids to attend preschool that focused on what kids need at this age: socialization, play, creativity, and an opportunity to just be four years old! That is what we have gotten from this school-and more. The teachers are incredible and have gone above and beyond for my child every day. The curriculum is appropriate for this age and the measure of success is not the ability to add or read or pass a standardized test-but rather, to be a functioning human, which is exactly what kids this young need. We love the school and the teachers and would recommend it highly to anyone who is looking for a fantastic experience in a safe space.

I really love this school for my son. He was so nervous to start preschool but has grown to love being at river canyon. Mrs Amber has helped him in so many ways. She is great with the kids. All of the teachers are. I agree with the price it is expensive but it’s worth it because the kids are well taken care of and they do so many neat things. And you can’t put a price on that !

We moved to Grand Junction this summer and River Canyon is my favorite thing about this city so far. It feels like a little oasis where kids can explore and grow into themselves. We love the teachers and the other parents. There is a big focus on being outside in nature and the school does such a wonderful job of fostering curiosity and magic for these kids. My daughter is sad when it’s a weekend and she doesn’t get to go to school!

River Canyon is an incredible school, and if you are lucky enough to get in, I know you will agree. Ms. Amber is both the lead teacher and school director . That means she is working with students all day (not sitting in an office). If you are interested in attending River Canyon, I would suggest sending an email or attending the open house they offer in February. This is a popular preschool with a waitlist, so if you are interested, make sure to get your enrollment in early!

Wonderful school! The teachers are kind and treat each kid as an individual. We’ve seen our son come out of his shell since joining RCS. We love how much time the kids spend outside and engaged in play. We also appreciate how the children help with cleaning, cooking and projects around the school. The crafts that our son brings home are authentic and kid centered. RSC is a magical space. We are grateful.

Our daughter has been a student at RCS for a year and a half, and she has grown leaps and bounds since enrolling. The staff is caring and well educated in nurturing young minds. I love that most of their play and discovery happen outside, and the school is truly dedicated to emotional and social growth, as well as fine and gross motor skills. I am beyond happy with RCS.

RCS is the best. The space is pure magic. Teachers are nurturing and kind. We love the focus on being outside, sitting and eating food together, art projects that last, songs, school events and play play play. Feel so lucky to have this gem in the valley.

This rating is for the experience I have had and not for the school itself.I never even got a chance to find out how the school is because I never even got a chance to speak to anyone there.I called them every day for at least a week. Left 2 to 3 voicemails as well. Finally my call was returned the following week which I couldn't answer. I called them back within a couple hours of their call and it was no answer again. I tried for the next 3 days again and still no answer. I gave up after this. If I can't even speak to someone after trying for 2 weeks to schedule a tour of this place then I have no confidence in sending my kid to this school.
