In 2021 we were on a cross country trip when my Tahoe transmission completely died in the middle of nowhere colorado. We got to a hotel and I started researching the area and I kept coming back to High Plains.
The next morning I called and described the issue and they told me I was pretty much screwed and I would probably need to have it towed there.
Being the defiant person I am I bet them I could make it (76 Miles).
25mph for 4 hours and all back roads, some of them were not vehicle friendly, we made it. We rented a car and went on our way. They called the next day and confirmed, the transmission was toast, it needed a rebuild.
I told them to do the work, and they said it would be ready for my return 6 days later.
Long story short, it was ready and drove great, and still does to this day.
We were angry, broke down, stranded, on a tight budget and impatient. High Plains Transmission could have done any number of things to screw us, but they didn't. They were honest, worked fast, did quality work and always very up front about everything. I couldn't recommend them more.

I called on Thursday to schedule appointment for the next week. Guy told me to bring my car in on Monday and asked if I could drop it off on Tuesday night. He said sure. Wednesday goes by no call. I call Thursday morning and he tells me that he was planning on looking at my car that day. No thank you. I went to pick up my car. I'm not going to a place that doesn't respect my time. Good luck!

My truck began making a terrible noise so I took it to the closest shop I trust. They wanted $3,000 to pull the transmission to "find" the problem, then if be responsible for further damage. I promptly brought the truck to Brad, who had my truck back to me within a week for 1/10th what the other shop likely would have charged. Brad was honest and upfront, and communicated with me twice during the week to give me updates. I couldn't have asked for a better shop or outcome! Thanks Brad!Service: Transmission

I was incredibly satisfied with High Plains Transmission. They took great care of my truck and got it up and running perfectly. The staff is so friendly and knowledgeable, they are quick and efficient, and they're not out to price gouge you. I will definitely go back to them and I definitely recommend using them.

Honest, honorable and completely trustworthy - Brad took time to troubleshoot my 2005 4 Runner, explain so I could understand the conflicting advice I had received (why NOT to flush and refill the transmission fluid), and did not want payment for his time. It is so nice to trust a car technician!

They rebuilt my 1st transmission in my 1970 Nova it was a race transmission and it did a great job then now I have a new transmission built by another company that they are going to rebuild for me I trust them ..They do great work

Do not recommend. 2008 GMC Yukon DenaliTook it in and provided the exact trouble codes from my handheld reader along with the likely issues. Asked for detailed diagnostics to narrow the trouble down to one issue. They called early the next day and told me it needed an entire new trans for $5k but couldn't tell me why or what the diagnostics said was broken. Instead, told me what I had told them upon dropping it off that the engine rpm doesn't match the input shaft rpm. When I asked them again for a detailed diagnostics they let my truck sit for a day and a half without touching it. When I came to pick it up they charged me $150 for "Diagnostics" even though they had not done them and told me it "is impossible to know what's wrong without opening the transmission up". Took it straight to the GMC dealer and they had it diagnosed as a bad valve body in 2 hrs. Parts were there the next day and my truck was fixed for $2125 out the door vs the flat $5k High Plains wanted.I know my trans has a lot of miles, but I asked them to diagnose the issue and they did not but charged me anyway. Would not bring anything here.

These guys are straightforward and take the time to go through everything with their customers. Came in thinking that I needed some major work. Instead of taking advantage of that fact, they pointed out some fairly minor issues that should be addressed but didn't have to happen right away. Will definately be taking it back for them to do the work. Highly recommend.
