Nothing works for this place and location too only if you want to stay close to LAX.First we were asked to stay in not in their original property but a secondary one which was an old house converted to a make shift hostelExtra 5$pp to stay in the common area post checking out if your flight is late at nightBed room had no curtains so there is sunlight in the room at 6ishThe room had no heating and was too cold the whole nightThe beds were spring foldable iron beds with mattresses over them which kept making noise Clothes all over the room of random peopleNo cleaninessBroken furniture

Ian was incredibly welcoming, which was especially lovely considering I was fresh off a long haul plane. The hostel itself is a 20 minute walk from the beach if you are put at it's northern site. Having stayed in a lot of hostels for $30 per night (apparently their lowest rate of the year) I did expect a bit more. It could do with some investment to tidy it up a bit. Single, very cranky beds were just placed in the middle of the room and the mattresses were so soft with scratchy bedding, it didn't make the best night sleep. But as I said, super friendly staff which is always appreciated.

Myself and my girlfriend had the terrible misfortune of staying at the Venice Hostel on Pacific Avenue in Venice, California. We drove up and immediately found absolutely zero parking so we had to park a block away in an in/out lot for $50. A bad start that was about to get worse cuz there is a buzzer-activated entrance that MUST have someone on duty inside to press. We waited 45 minutes outside in a very, very sketchy section of Venice with our bags until the mgr. Yoshi (who barely speaks English) let us in. Now we were informed that even though we had a credit of $169.00 for a changed reservation we paid earlier, we would have to pay an additional $171.50 and wait for a refund within 10 days. The place looked absolutely dark and impossibly dirty from entrance to exit. The stairs had breaks in the planks and the room was: HORRIBLY DIRTY, ROACHES WERE SEEN AS WELL AS A BEDBUG (We used a beach sheet to sleep on), HOLES IN THE WALL, MUSIC UNTIL 2am, USED SHEETS W/STAINS, LYING MANAGER WHO BARELY SPEAKS ENGLISH, BROKEN STAIRS, NO SECURITY, NO ELEVATOR, USED CLOTHES ON FLOOR IN RIDICULOUSLY DIRTY COMMON EATING AND VISITING AREA, POOL TABLE WITH HUGE TEARS IN THE TABLETOP, NO TV, NO MICROWAVE, NO COFFEE, FURNITURE WAS TERRIBLE, MATTRESS 30 YEARS OLD CONSERVATIVELY, BOTH TOWEL WERE WELL WORN AND VERY SMALL, NO PHONE, KITCHEN HELP CLEANING AND COOKING WITH NO HAIRNET AND THONGS, and absolutely no HELP from mgmnt. is what the ultimately $171. 50 PER NIGHT AFTER REFUND I WAS CHARGED buys you for one night at the less than deplorable Venice Hostel. To say this place rivals a Tijuana type of hostel, motel or bnb gives it too much credit as they are an established hostel that relies on false advertising, very dated pictures and completely fake and terribly deceptive reviews to lure people in then charge at will to hostel goers with no choice but to pay. I got no receipt upon leaving so was only appraised of this dumps double charging from my bank statement. Trying to reason with the manager is impossible due to his lack of the ability to speak or comprehend English, and his obvious self-interest in keeping our money!DO NOT GO HERE AND IF OVERCHARGED HIDDEN FEES NOT DIVULGED BY VENICE HOSTEL CONTACT Yelp, the BBB, TripAdvisor, Google Reviews and your local health department.Rooms: Myself and my girlfriend had the terrible misfortune of staying at the Venice Hostel on Pacific Avenue in Venice, California. The location is good but the place isn’t. Maybe that was the reason it was cheap. The room where we stayed was very dirty and the bedsheets too. Sofas, kitchen... But if you want to spend your time outdoors and only go to hostel to sleep without spend a lot of money, maybe it's the place.

Stayed here in a private room. The room was nice and big with comfy beds. However, we didn't have any hot water in our shower and my friend got an allergic reaction to the water after her cold shower. She had a rash, so we had to go to the beach to shower again (it went away after that). Common area seems dirty and smells bad. It would definitely need a thorough cleaning. Front desk was empty when we arrived, we had to wait. The girl working there was nice but the other staff seemed unfriendly and uninterested. You get what you pay for. Best thing about this hostel is the location, right by the beach and shops. We were outside the whole day, so we didn't care much about our accomodation and for that it was a good choice.

Business not being handled seriously, could not check-in due to being after midnight, I called them before midnight to arrange a late check-in but no one answered and in the end still charged me.

It says 55$ online but ends up being 80$ after fees when you go to check in.Guy working at the hostel got mad and tried to defend this saying there was a 14% hotel tax when this was a 45% price increase.Anyways this hostel was broken down and awful, would be okay if it was cheap but it wasn’t.

I am not usually one to write negative reviews, but this place was unacceptable for me. I do not recommend this hostel. Terrible customer service. When I got to my assigned room, I noticed there was no A/C or windows to outside, so I simply told the front desk lady (manager) that I was uncomfortable and could not sleep there that night. Instead of showing empathy or at least being a nice person, she immediately went to the room and asked everyone else if they were fine and they said yes. I understand that they were "fine" but I wasn't and she had no consideration for my situation. The hostel was fully booked up which was understandable so I was lucky to switch hostels. If you care about customer service or quality of rooms, this is NOT the place for you.In addition, there is a club attached to this hostel which can get VERY loud. My friends who were staying there after I switched said that there was a shooting near this hostel so I would not recommend going out alone. In summary for my case, terrible rooms, terrible customer service, sketchy location.I switched to HI Santa Monica and it was 100X better!! Hope this helps in your decision on where to stay!

This place has potential but I do have to admit that it lacked some quality… the rooms were comfortable enough to sleep in but I can’t say much else after that. The facilities are outdated, there is a lingering smell of mold, and there was a $100 deposit that we had to pay, which I have never encountered at any other hotel. Apart from that, the location is ideal and the rooms are clean. For the price it was doable, but there is a lot of room for improvement.

This place was an experience. Rooms where clean staff was super cool and your right by beach store’s restaurants etc! The only down fall was there was no ac or tv! Also if ur a girl make sure to bring a blow dryer! It’s really busy so it’s not super Quiet witch we did not mind at all! Also this place is definitely not for children to stay at lol! Overall it wasn’t to bad! We enjoyed our stay!

Update in process; to be completed after current stayAnd unfortunately Cortland may no longer work here. Therefore no more outstanding guitar performances at clubs?kinda OK hostel, although may take a little time to get familiar with(Correction Old crew, no longer here). However, most everyone at the hostel was extremely friendly and helpful.Back in2019, way before covid hit and closed everything downNew update for 2022 in progress, and a lot has changedLots of great new friends and acquaintances, most especially a must see is Cortland's awesome guitar performance.Aside from being centrally located adjacent to the beach and exuberant clubs, all within walking distance, if still young and healthy.Yes, obviously the room (specifically my)was large and airy (not stuffy).

customer service was ok. great location, minutes from beach, near cafes and restaurants. free street parking near by. rooms are ok. hallways need updating, dirty carpets. good size kitchen. several fridges to store food, if needed. Overall an ok option for Venice beach...location itself makes it worth it.
