Good place to go if your regular vet is closed. They are expensive but they will show you a price range for your services and you can opt out of the ones you feel are not necessary or too expensive for you. I recommend them

I received excellent care for my dog, he needed cervical spine surgery and was in acute pain. He was seen for a consult and had surgery the same day. Talented Doctors and compassionate nursing staff. My dog is on the road to recovery and feeling great.

Best surgeons in North county at least but be prepared to pay for it. By far the most expensive care with mixed admin. But again... if my dog is in mortal danger and needs an operation these are the best

I have had a couple of visits to the ER here and they were great. But I also have two dogs that see specialists here, Dr Miller for oncology, and just saw Dr Scherrer for orthopedics and they are amazing!! I won’t take my pups anywhere else!

As always, the care we get from Veterinary Specialty Hospital - North County continues to be top notch. The staff is always professional, friendly and helpful. The doctors are excellent. Our 14 year old Golden Retriever “Grant” is currently under the care of Dr. Miller for CLL and she is such a great person. Knowledgeable, kind, communicative and supportive in every aspect of his care. “Grant” loves everyone there which makes his visits so easy.

I want to start off by saying our experience here was fantastic! When our frenchie, Zoey, started showing signs of wobbling, loss of balance, and dragging of feet, we went to our regular vet to see what was going on. Thinking the worst, we were prepared to do whatever was needed to help our fur baby. Our veterinarian recommended we see a neurologist, and referred us over to Veterinary Specialty Hospital - North County.
Before making the appointment, we did our homework on the veterinarians there and what they specialize in. We then decided on Dr. John Gagnepain, and I am so thankful we did! From the moment he walked into our appointment, he sat on the floor with Zoey so she could warm up to him. He didn’t rush at all and took his time to examine her and hear out my concerns.
He had recommended some treatment/testing options varying from different price ranges, and I appreciated that he didn’t pressure us into one way or another. Ultimately, both routes would have helped her, but we chose the MRI which they were able to perform that same day. He kept us calm and in the loop throughout the MRI and was thorough with his findings after. Again, he took the time to make sure I was at ease and came up with a treatment plan I felt comfortable with.
Now, I’ve read other people’s reviews complaining about the prices and how “ridiculous” it is, but I will say, you’re paying for the peace of mind that your fur baby is well taken care of. Their determination to get answers and to provide treatment is like none I’ve ever seen. They were very upfront with a break down of the cost of service and didn’t hide anything (like we’ve experienced in the past with other hospitals.)
Overall, our experience here and with Dr. Gagnepain was exceptional, and worth the 1 1/2 hour drive. The nurses and the girls at the front desk were so helpful from start to finish too. We are so thankful for everyone here and that we were able to find the root of our problem.

On Oct 7, 2023 we woke up to Clent (our boxer) barking and howling. He was not acting normal. And started getting seizures. We called around at 1am for an emergency vet. Finally I remembered VSH San Marcos. We are an hr from SM. And they took us in. The staff was very helpful and kind. Very respectful of us and Clent. And the situation we were in. Sadly we had to let him cross the rainbow ?
Fast forward! Staff sent us a sympathy card ? Very sweet of them. Even though the outcome was not what I wanted. It was a serene environment.
