I had the pleasure of staying at the Lamplighter Inn & Suites in San Luis Obispo. I had family in town visiting about two weeks ago and needed to obtain a hotel room for myself to stay in. The property was very nice, clean, and service was impeccable! Great location as well, near downtown SLO. Front staff at check in was knowledgeable and fast with check in. I would definitely recommend this place to family and friends!Rooms: Nicely appointed and very cleanWalkability: Near Downtown SLO

Parking great. Right off the freeway. Easy to find. Close to downtown and most areas. Room a bit underwhelming. Handprints on ceiling, broken knobs on closets. Overall decent stay but not best around.

I tried booking a room with them on Expedia. After entering my information I got only error messages. I called the hotel directly and Wesley booked the room, found no Expedia charges for me (and said he'd watch for any Expedia reservation for me). Wesley was a great help. The room was across the street. It was perfectly cleaned. All was in working order. Free parking. Checkout was friendly and quick (and confirmed no Expedia charges had snuck into my account). We had a great stay with them. We will definitely stay with them again when we visit the area.

The rooms are basic, good if you're looking for just some where to sleep. We tried 3 rooms before finding one with a functioning air conditioner. Management did offer a discount for the trouble.

We had a free upgrade to a deluxe room because the air conditioning was not working in the standard queen room. The room was very run down, torn beding, light bulbs burnt-out, and the air only ran on low. Beds are hard, and it was $170 for one night.Rooms: Crappie

We stayed Thursday through Sunday and I was going to extend 3 days. Third floor room over parking. Made continuing reservation on Saturday afternoon. Sunday morning went to verify extension and they couldn't find the extended one even though I recieved email confirmation.Bad news. They serve mini muffins and coffee in lobby. I was eating a muffin and coffee and set them on the reservation counter. The hotel guy got obnoxious and told me I was rude for setting them on the counter. He could have done this nicely but escalated when I asked if he was the owner. He was abrupt and said that's none of my business. I commented he could be nicer and commented on the other problems. I said I'm a customer trying to verify the res and complain about the other inadequacies too. Then said I would not be staying any further. Went to room and packed. On my way out a new desk person was on duty. I explained the confrontation. He texted the owner and he offered and additional 10% on my extended stay. I declined because that was a savings of $30 which is no penalty to him when my full extended stay was $300. That is a hard $300 loss for having a bad overnight desk person. Note I could have gotten the room on Priceline at 69 vs 99 dollars dor my res.Note the other desk persons were very nice and helpful.More bad.Now the other motel issues. The curtains were old and rotted. The phone didn't work. The television turned on to fuzz and noise. Remote didn't work. A maint guy changed out the phone. Still didn't work. The refrigerator didn't get cool and no adjustment could be found. Although its freezer was working.Smart Thermostat didn't work either. Opened window fo fresh air.Bathroom shower fixtures were old with some rust. The were a few ants in the bathroom.GOOD now.Coffee and muffins in lobby were very good. Beds and rooms were generally comfortable and well cleaned. 3 pillows that were throw pillow size weird but worked. Some of the Lowest rates in SLO.I might stay here again. Probably A good value under $100 if you don't have to deal with that rude night clerk (black cap) on Sunday at 8am.

Recently I spent 2 nights at the lamplighter Inn in SLO. Here is my review.Upon arrival, which was in the evening, the desk clerk was exceptionally rude.At checkin in he claimed he had to tun my card again, I had already paid in full, and showed the confirmation and receipt to him.I paid for a King room, and was given a room with a Full size bed, and told oh well we’re full you can’t change roomsWhile the linens and surfaces were clean, the trash had not been emptied and the room smelled of someones fish remains. I tossed the trash can out the door. The TV remote didn’t work. I asked for batteries and was told there werent any I would have to buy them myself, I downloaded an app to my phone for the weekendThe next morning I went out doing my thing, when I returned in the late afternoon, I was reading, and my door opens, thankfully I had the flip lock on, a person had been issued a key to my room. This person apologoized for startling me, informed me the desk had said my room was empty, but he would go take care of it.I called down, “oh you were supposed to be gone” was the answer, again I go down to the desk and show my receipt for 2 nights. The day clerk apologized said she would fix it.This same evening the rude evening manager calls the room phone, askes to confirm my name, and then hangs up.When I checked out the next morning, “you were supposed to be out yesterday” she says, again I show my receipt, and then called my credit card company and told them to deny any further charges from that hotel.

This place completely sucked. Rooms were not clean...hair on the mattress, crumbs on the floor, hair in the shower, paint peeling from the wall, light switch didn't work, and the safe didn't work, beds uncomfortable, weird tiny pillows. No early checkout box, I got lucky and unlocked the lobby door and let the employee in to checkout. The swimming pool and jacuzzi look like they have not been cleaned in 30 years. On a positive note, the price was good if you don't mind the other issues.

The Lamplighter was our home away from home weekly for over a year while my wife finished her Cal Poly degree. The staff are all wonderful and are attentive to whatever need you may have. If you are expecting a luxury hotel and all amenities that come with that, then you are better off looking elsewhere, but if you are looking for the best bang for the buck then the Lamplighter is your place hands down. We stayed at all of the other "cheap" hotels in the area and the Lamplighter is definitely the best in terms of value and staff. We will be staying at the Lamplighter for any future visits to SLO.

The room they gave me no control remote for the TV. The TV no have cable and smell in the room was horrible. They changed me the room, the other have the same smell but the couch was old and dirty dawn to the bed I found trash and 1 per of ? the bathroom was hair in the tub and the floor I go to the pool and was horrible trash inside, the jacuzzi had mold and the water look green and disgusting i talk to the front desk .(If you find someone at the front desk, it is because you're lucky ?) about the pool and they said the person how clean the pool works 1 day of the week i don't know what week. I stay the whole week, and they never appear. I took my kids to another hotel to swim. They charged me $250 for a securit deposit, and the price was i little higher than others, and I think it was a waste for not having breakfast, dirty pool, room, and bad service. (Thank you for my toilet paper never arrived) was a bad experience. If you are looking for a hotel, STAY AWAY FROM THIS ONE. ( go to motel 6) I think it is better than this one.Rooms: The furniture was old and dirty.

Booked this hotel because it advertises a nice looking spa tub. Came to find out that the spa was filled with cold, dirty water. Staff said they don't know how to fix it. The room was okay, but the couch was extremely dirty. There was someone's dirty underwear inside then couch which was pretty disgusting. Staff offered a 10% discount but I don't feel like that makes up for the disappointing experience at this hotel.

First of all, the staff, front desk/housekeeping, were so friendly and amazing! As far at the hotel itself and the rooms in particular, pretty rundown. Stains on the side of the bed. Not sure what happened there. Sheets don't quite fit the bed Lampshades are cracked.

Horrible unclean hotel room(s). The heating unit never heated up the room just putting out cold air only. The beds only had a spread, I froze all night. The TV had no sound. The front desk staff night were welcoming and tried to offer the best possible service. I was assured that I would receive a discount for my troubles. But the owner SAM didn't follow through on that. He felt totally fine with the conditions of the hotel. Don't go there you'll be miserableWalkability: Close to better servicing hotels

Service was ok.Breakfast was pre packaged cheap pastries.Hotel was filthy all around, except in the room I was staying in, that was clean. Carpets in halls were disgusting and had trash littered throughout.Hot tub smelled weird and hadn't been cleaned in a long time.Heater and tv were not functioning. They gave me $15 off my first night of two for the dysfunction.Summary: inexpensive, but I guess you get what you pay for!Nearby activities: Lots of great shopping and food in SLO within walking distance!

Worst experience ever. I got 4 rooms, each room had issues. None of them were vacuumed, showers were filthy, they even left cleaning items in bathroom. TVs didn't work, and the man came to check, didn't know what he was doing. Our son figured it out, went and fixed other TVs. Shower doors were coming off, holes in doors, lamps damaged, front desk guy put us through a 20 minute hell experience just to check in. Saw him get offered a beer while working and he accepted it. Heater didn't work, my parents room was deplorable.Never stay here again. Waste of our money.
