“I purchased a beautiful tea pot, and too, my surprise was that it was also a functioning music box. DUAL FUNCTION teapot, how creative is that! The ladies working there were very nice. They have 50% off on the 3rd Saturday of every month, so I will be returning.”

“This is a truly fantastic non profit - more than just a second hand store - TAGS is a place for teens to learn how to run a business and dive into exploring their creativity through workshops and support recycling and reuse! What a great addition to San Leandro's downtown !”

“It's like getting into a treasure room. Jocelyn's (the owner) goal is and always was to have a free store, but she needs to pay the store's rent so she does plant sales. I don't know anybody more knowledgeable about plants than her, I got mine from her ages ago and they're thriving. Free UP is open only on Sundays now from 12pm to 3pm. Definitely one of my favorite places.”

“I called and asked if they accept donations. The response was that they are very choosy about which items they accept. I only have collector items so I didn't think they would refuse my items. They accepted the ones I brought. I'll leave a pic of one of the African Masks I gave them.”

“What a great little thrift shop. The volunteers were all so friendly, found some great items at great prices, and so happy to hear that all proceeds go to ucsf childrens hospital. Will definitely be coming back.”

“I would highly recommend coming here! The owner Michael is nice and the store is really clean. All of the clothing was sorted by color and it was very well organized. We liked looking through all the racks, all of the clothes were great quality and there was something there for everyone. The prices were also extremely fair. I will definitely come back the next time I am in Berkeley!”

“Kimberly, Cortney and the woman with the beautiful hairstyles helped us so much. My partner and I are doing a professional development giveaway, which includes professional items. They had an excellent range of items to choose from and we can't wait to give back to folks while giving back to the American Cancer Society. Whoo Hoo!”

“What a great business. The woman who helped me was knowledgeable, and relaxed but attentive. She knew exactly which questions to ask in order to get me what I needed, in and out of the store, within 30 minutes. Their warehouse selection is just enough they'd have whatever you need mannequin-related, but not overwhelming, and no merchandise in poor condition. I paid $80 out the door for a 3/4 mannequin in good condition, with detachable arms and stand, an excellent value. They had a class going on which looked fun, and I was low-key jealous I couldn't stop and make a headdress too. The women's attitudes who were working were totally welcoming and from the little interaction I had, I can tell they'd, and their store, would be amazing resources for various projects.”

“Purchased a musical instrument from The Salvation Army - Oakland Online Store, which I received via UPS. A plastic bottle of liquid conditioner was packaged in a ZipLoc bag along with two instruction manuals. Unfortunately, the liquid leaked inside the bag during shipping and badly damaged both paper manuals. After I submitted photos of the damaged manuals, The Salvation Army credited my account for them. I really appreciate their response on this issue!”

“Literally a hidden gem if your a thrift girlie who actually likes the thrill of the hunt. Found more than a few hidden gems (how often to you still find Tiffany style laps, tons of genuine 70s silver jewelry with pearl/abalone shell details, leather goods, furniture..) I take off 1 star because the clothing options were not it, I feared for my life judging it on the outside being alone as a woman going in the first time, and I wish there was even more furniture.”

“If you are over 50, or a "real senior", the Mastick Senior Center is a great place for a variety of activities. I, personally, love Line Dancing, Zumba and Yoga. Come and make friends while staying healthy.”

“I'm still in shock. When I arrived, I sheepishly asked if they had a cane or walking stick available. I've been struggling with health problems and still feel pretty embarrassed hobbling around. I took awhile getting around the store selecting things while my husband went to the post office. I got a nice suitcase, a cute cane, a bunch of toys for the kids, some clothes, a purse, etc. I was prepared to pay a hundred dollars today and enjoy investing in small businesses instead of corporations. She was so very kind to me and did not even allow me to pay a quarter of that out the door. I probably shouldn't say what she charged me out the door but it truly brought me to tears almost. I will remember today and her kindness for a very long time. I will pay it forward as often as possible. Awesome treasures, very generous prices and the woman who works there left a lasting impression on me. Thank you so very much, there are some very happy kids over here enjoying 5heir new toys!”

“Its a pretty unique thrift store, the prices are inexpensive and they have really nice kitchenry, plates, and tea sets! The clothing there is too, although its not the biggest shop, its still a gem. Theres a changing room too. Though watch out for stains and ripped pieces.”

“I work in HIV and I am pleased about this agency/retailer meeting and giving back to the community in a practical tangible way. The color-coordination and organization is extremely pleasing to the eye, making it much more easy to shop. Items are great quality, it’s clean, and spacious. My kids like thrifting so this is a great choice.”

“Great store, amazing finds, supporting an all women business is a win for me! Plus they had what I was looking for for my Christmas shopping list! It’s a circular economy- less waste in our landfill, affordable items for my wallet, repurposed items going to a good home and supporting single moms all while keeping our dollars in Oakland.”

“This is my favorite resale store. No, it is not as cheap as goodwill. But it is well curated and has a nice range of items in excellent shape, ranging from Zara and Banana Republic to designer items. The designer rack is too pricey for my budget but I have found excellent dresses for $25, men’s button down shirts for $14, great tops for $16. The store is a manageable size and the dressing rooms are good. If you are looking for young, trendy small sized clothing to go clubbing this might not be your number one choice but as a working mom I enjoy shopping here”

“This is the best place to donate. It's a good cause and the volunteers keep the shop clean and maintain a good vibe. They are starting to price a bit high. Some things are higher priced than new in the store. Other than price they get a 5”

“I have found great items at this thrift shop! It’s literally a hidden gem, I found a Kate Spade blazer and skirt for like a total of $10, a cute nude sweater dress with gold button details for the fall etc. It’s not a huge chain thrift store and that’s truly what I love about it. It’s downtown with great finds, sort of private, and with great prices. :) :) :)”

“Hey, I recommend this store... I love that all the clothes are separated by color... there are always discounts... a variety of items... and the best thing, the customer service is quality... .open every day!!”

“The Lighting needs an update but the staff were hip and helpful. We bought what we thought was a black leather coat for a great price but it was blue! They let us trade it out for a black one. We had to pay $20 more dollars for the black one but it's black, and lined and nicer, so we scored! Thanks!”

“This was a great shop for thrifting! The clothing selection is small, but it’s all well gone through because the clothing is quality for a really great price. Shirts were $3 and jackets were $5. There are also furniture pieces, pretty large and brand new! The cashier was really kind too!”

“Good selection of jeans and helpful staff. But if you're not going to bring back the changing room, please consider providing a curtain in the women's area where I can try them on with tights. I keep thinking I'm skinnier than I am when I grab a pair...”

“The Salvation Army is my go to spot for both purchases and recycling clothes and other useful items. The staff is friendly and helpful! Visit this place to get good deals and to drop off items you'll no longer use!”

“Just went here for the first time. Organized, packed with people (popular!), somewhat pricey for thrift, and definitely the kind of place where you will find something. Clothing felt like about 80-90% of the inventory, but outside of that you can grab your typical coffee maker, toaster oven, etc.”

“This location is incredible! Always friendly, helpful and kind. Makes leaving my donation less of a chore with the friendly staff. I am a dedicated contributor because of them.”

“There was one GoodWill new store on Durant here in Oakland back then. They got the best spot and they're clothes are so clean and I love their service. Me and my boyfriend we spend $100 on clothes only and I was fully satisfied with my shopping that day. Two weeks later I went back to the place and the place was closed. I was so sad that day to see that they moved from that place. I've always love shopping at GoodWill .. they always put a smile on my face. Good people and I'm blessed to know them all. You the best GOODWILL.. please continue the good work and God Bless folks”
