I’m liberal and middle-aged. First time I’ve been carded walking into a Total Wine by a perched police officer. This is a gestapo tactic to keep homeless and thieves out as no other store in the city requires IDs for entry. Lot of armed security in stores, but no ID for entry.I’ll not shop at any place that requires my ID for entry. I’ll drive outside of this city so tax dollars are spent elsewhere leading to less funding for this nonsense.Clean your city up through rational policy, paying to solve the problem instead of over-paying heads to talk about the problem while doing nothing. Action as opposed to theoretical action. Then, you might see those with mental illness and disability without means gain some dignity lessening this mess.Imprisoning people, letting the crime run rampant, and over-paying white entitled intellectuals to perpetually do nothing but talk with no action are all insane tactics.

I was going in with my husband, stopped at the door like it was a club. No ID,can't come in. I said I could provide a picture as I was not the one purchasing the alcohol, wouldn't let me in. No worries as I'm well over the legal age, but the policy isn't like that in Daly city where we used to frequent. Inconsistency is lame, and likely won't return to this location

Excellent selection, good security. The morning manager on 4/5/24 was especially helpful. I had an order that was put in for pick up on the wrong day and she was able to fill it right away for me. I spent no longer than 7 mins total in the store. Very friendly. Would return.

This is the future of shopping in San Francisco, the whole place is gated to keep the bums out... and they card each and every person that comes in the store so they only get good customers

Service is inconsistent, and today it was so bad that I decided it's simply not worth supporting a company that allows that type of customer experience. To put it bluntly, the woman who "helped" me today was rude as hell and the door guy made some personal remarks that were uncalled-for.I tried to order something for pickup, in exactly the same way that I did literally just a couple of days ago with no trouble, and this time the pickup order was refused. They didn't really have any good explanation for why they handled it differently both times - and when I expressed frustration about this inconsistency, not only did they cop an attitude with me (repeatedly cutting me off, and just being really rude and dismissive), but what really put the cherry on the cake was being called a bad person by the guy manning the door. They decided their idea of an appropriate customer interaction was to smirk at me midway through the conversation and say "so....having a good day?". I said, "well I was, until I got here, and got this bad service". Their response was, "well you get the service that matches who you are". So wow, expressing frustration at inconsistent policies makes me a BAD PERSON? Nice. Real nice. The same door person tried to tell me I should leave my bike outside, unlocked, and that it "wouldn't get stolen". When I said that was definitely not an option, and that my bike would definitely get stolen if it was outside unlocked, his response was to sneer at me and tell me "you're not special". For....thinking my bike would be stolen? I guess? Apparently that means I think I'm special. If anything, it means the opposite. I'm NOT special, meaning my bike can get stolen just as readily as anyone's.(For the record, I placed the pickup order because I know, and respect, that they don't allow bikes in their store. That was literally the entire reason I went about this the way that I did. I'm not upset that they don't allow bikes in their store, I'm upset that they apply their own policies regarding pickup orders inconsistently. At no point did I make this about my bike - the issue was strictly about the pickup order.)I eventually requested that they cancel my order. The person I was talking to claimed that they had cancelled it, but something told me I should wait for an email confirmation and lo and behold, she never actually cancelled it. So I went back and asked, again, to cancel the order. She refused, again with a really shitty attitude, and shoved a post-it note with corporate's number at me before walking off. So, I called corporate who cancelled it no problem.I understand customer service is hard. I've done it for a really, really long time myself. People can be hard to deal with. But empathy goes a long way. I don't know if I was speaking to someone in any type of management role but a skilled manager should be able to diffuse tension, listen to frustrations, and address them with empathy and patience.Instead, the two people I spoke to escalated things by cutting me off, speaking dismissively to me, changing their story on me, and especially the door guy who TWICE made it pretty personal (calling me a bad person and saying "you're not special" as if that was an insult?). Absolutely not ok.EDIT: to address the response below - no thank you. I already told corporate my story, when I called them to cancel my order. The guy on the phone (while very helpful in cancelling the order) could not care less about what I had to say about my experience. I doubt some other phone person will care any more than the first one did. But, the reply was a cute attempt in pretending the company cares. Props for being prompt, I guess.

The only Total wine & more in San Francisco and this place is nice, safe and clean. Upon entering with armed guards outside which provides a sense of peace and security to entering a store of every drinkers paradise. You will see unique and odd bottle designs and every spirit/wine and canned cocktails you can imagine. If you are celebrating something or want to try something that most liquors do not have, I would recommend this place.
