There isn't a really straightforward Muni route from my home to my job so I started looking for an ebike and checked out The New Wheel on the advice of a near-stranger. I'm glad I actually took that advice: I found the bike and accessories that I needed at a reasonable price, and everyone there was incredibly helpful, particularly True and Logan, who seamlessly handled the ordering, delivery, and setup. There are actually several bike shops in the city that are much closer to both my apartment and my work, but everything here was great, so I'll definitely be back and don't mind going a couple extra miles to get there.

I've ridden an entry-level e-bike for 5 years and learned that you get what you pay for. I ended up spending a lot of money on upgrades on this first bike, (bought online), and resolved to step up to a higher-quality bike...bought from a shop that can provide service in my community. I knew that I wanted a more compact, lighter bike that could be transported on transit or in a car if I had a flat. New Wheel's website is great. It helped me navigate to the models that fit my needs. The video showing the versatility of the Tern Vektron was instrumental in narrowing my selection. I made an appointment to test ride the bike and Yannis walked me through the details of the bike and also offered an alternative choice. I test rode them both and chose the Vektron. The communication from the store was great throughout the process. The orientation videos were very helpful as well. For many people, this is a big investment and can be intimidating. The fact that New Wheel discounts a hydraulic brake upgrade speaks volumes to the integrity of their operation. The sales process was very transparent. I'm very happy with the bike and even happier that I can now get bike service in my neighborhood rather than going to Marin or the East Bay where my previous bike's branded stores are located.

I stopped in to get information while I was in the area - got all my questions answered as a first-time electric bike buyer and at the time I knew next to nothing, other than I wanted to replace a second car with a bike for local trips <10 miles. All the staff were very friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to not just answer questions but show me the differences between various models and the reasons for the width in price ranges. Yannis went with me on a test ride around the neighborhood, and helped me get all the info I needed to make a good informed decision.
New Wheel offers a lease program in addition to sales and service, and all these options were explained well; they even did the math to see what the breakeven would be on different service plans. I came back after a lunch meeting and made the decision to buy the model I test rode, and on delivery a little less than a week later Yannis was there to cover everything I needed to know as a new e-bike owner.
If you're interested in getting an e-bike or just wanting to learn more, I recommend The New Wheel in Bernal Heights! The sales process was zero pressure and they all genuinely want you to love your bike.

I recently purchased a e bike from New Wheel and had an outstanding experience. Matt was super knowledgeable and patient (I was fairly clueless) during the selection phase. And Jason took exception care of me when it came to fitting me for the bike and teaching me how to use it. This was my first time purchasing an e bike and I can't imagine how I would have navigated this process without New Wheel. I can't recommend them more highly. Joe G.

The New Wheel is such a cornerstone store for Cortland. I visited these guys when e-bikes when I moved to the neighborhood in 2013 and they were excellent then and it’s amazing to see how their infectious passion has helped transform the SF ebike scene.
Their level of knowledge and customer service serves is amazing. I like visiting, my kids like visiting. It’s awesome.
Oh yea, my Tern GSD is killer. It has unlocked the city for me and my family.

I was never a big fan of cargo bikes; I felt it was not my style and always chose my car to carry my kids around. I considered one as I thought it would be a great adventure for our two kids and took a test drive. They loved it, but I never thought how much I, who was never into these big bikes, would love it too.
I purchased my Riese & Mueller Load 75 just a few weeks ago, and I rarely use my car in the city now. I feel better and fresher when I get to work. My kids always want to get on the bike instead of the car. We see more of the city and more places and shops than before when we were just driving by and couldn’t find parking. I got the delivery from these amazing folks about 6-7 weeks ago and have already driven more than 430 miles. Go to this store; these guys are amazing, helpful, and honest. We worked with JR, who is there on Saturdays.
Go there. Test drive. It might be life-changing.

These photos were taken 12 years apart. Back in 2012, Brett and Karen went to extraordinary measures to help electrify my Madsen, since at the time there were no other electric cargo bikes that could haul 3 kids. They accepted delivery of a bike I had ordered myself, built it, rented a van to haul it to a welder in Oakland to add extra brackets so that a BionX kit could be retrofitted to the bike, including ordering a longer cable to accommodate the frame length, and getting the rear hub motor fitted in a 20” wheel. They didn’t let me down with service agreements and helping with warranty, despite BionX getting discontinued and half my money having gone directly to the bike manufacturer. That bike fully replaced a car in our household for 5 years, and paid for itself many times over.
The kids got bigger, and we moved a bit further out in the city where the bike no longer made our commute more efficient than a car. Sadly, I found myself stuck in a car up to 6 hours a day, and getting more out of shape and unhappy every year.
Fast forward to today, and after 12 years I am so grateful to be a returning customer at this now very popular locally-owned business, taking advantage of a great sale price on a new Riese & Muller multicharger. The well trained staff, Logan and Rohan, helped answer all my questions to make 100% sure this was the right bike for my current needs (carrying moderate cargo, an occasional teen passenger, mostly city errands). My kids are taking MUNI more, and the older one drives occasionally as needed, so it is time for me to get back to my happy place.
Yes, the bikes are on the higher end at The New Wheel, but they select the best bikes in every category, so you have the maximum chance of spending more time in the saddle and less time behind a wheel. This will save more money than you can imagine when you consider the true cost of owning and operating a vehicle. Brett and Karen continue to run a very ethical and thoughtful business, with long-term well trained staff. It’s no surprise that customers remain loyal over time.
My parents (in their 70s, living in Marin), also own two Riese Muller bikes purchased from TNW Larkspur location, and they have about 4000 miles of healthy adventure behind them, and counting…

It's THE BEST store; I bought a cargo bike here; let me share my experience.
Pre-sale
I had to make an appointment to let
Know more about the bikes. This was my first e-bike ever, and I needed in-person information even tho I had previously looked at several brands and models.
At the time of my appointment, Yannis helped me. It was a great experience; Yannis provided detailed information about the bicycles and explained each difference carefully. English is not my first language, and Yannis was patient with me.
When we took a road test, he came with me and explained more information about the bicycle, the pros and cons of the model I was riding, and how well it fits into my needs. It had been a while since I rode a bike, and I was nervous, but Yannis was supportive and patient, making my road test a pleasant experience.
After the road test, I was sure I wanted to do business with them. They sent me the quote when I arrived home after visiting the shop.
Placing the order was super easy, making the order online without any problems.
After two weeks and before the estimated arrival time, they called me to schedule the pickup since it arrived early.
Picking up
Like the first visit, I had to make an appointment for pick up. After my arrival, the team at the shop explained in detail all the features the bike had and all the paperwork. They installed additional accessories I purchased at that moment very quickly and smoothly. They offered a road test before leaving in case any further adjustments were needed, but I was in a rush, so I declined the offer, but it was nice to have.
Post sale
I want to thank the new wheel team for all the support and excellent customer service in handling a minor manufacturing issue with my bicycle covered by the warranty—special thanks to Jason F. For the assistance and the follow-up in my case, they care about the customer service and the experience. They are more than just selling ebikes. It is an absolute pleasure doing business with them. Highly recommend
