“Highly recommend this company and their employees. They genuinely care and are very reputable. Just had my gate lock repaired by them. The gentleman suggested to repair because we had a high quality lock mechanism (which we had purchased from them many years ago). A new replacement would have cost over $300 for the mechanism plus the labor to install. I paid $160 for the repair. Money well spent. He could have just told me to replace it. He was a true artisan...a true locksmith. Sat in his truck and worked on it for quite some time and went back and forth to make sure it was perfect. Now it smoothly opens and closes. Have used them for years and will continue to be loyal to them.”

“I love Cliff's. It's such a fun store. I go here for almost all of my hardware needs. And sometimes just to browse (Warning: You'll be hard pressed not to purchase anything if you're just browsing. So much cool stuff here.) The very best thing about Cliff's, though, hands down are its knowledgeable and friendly staff. Case in point: Last year, while cleaning our bathroom, I accidentally broke our porcelain toilet bowl (yikes!). I'm not handy and Googled info on how to fix it. I then went to Cliff's to purchase what I needed to patch it up until the toilet bowl could be replaced. When I got to Cliff's, there were a lot of different glue and tape options available and I wasn't quite sure what to buy. Should be simple, right? But would they all work on porcelain? Did I need something waterproof? Of all these options, what was best for my situation? One of the staff and he was happy to give me some guidance. He helped me choose the right products and then gave me advice on how to use them. His advice was spot on. While you may save a couple of bucks by ordering stuff online, the invaluable advice that you get from places like Cliff's isn't something you're going to get from Amazon. Grateful that gems like these still exist.”

After going to 3 other stores to try and find what I needed, each of which had terrible customer service where the employees didn't give a $hit, I was stoked to find that this place had someone who actually cared. In fact, it took more than a couple tries to find exactly what I needed, & Richard was more than willing to help. To the owners: thanks for being here, having such a huge inventory, & for hiring people who treat your customers with respect! I will definitely be back!! To my fellow Yelp'ers: THIS should be your first stop. Forget big box names & go here. “Great guys, they saved me big bucks $$$! I'm not a plumber by any means. My kitchen sink was leaking both hot & cold . The faucet is an old style, it's hard to find replacement parts. To replace the faucet would cost around 100+ dollars! WB plumbing had the parts I needed & I ended up paying $9.22 ! WB could have made money off me & didn't. From now on I'll go to WB plumbing 1st when I need any plumbing advice or product”

“Best hardware store ever!I went in for a part for Grohe kitchen faucet, even though they don't have it, they called the owner to help me find the part.My neighbor told me if I can't find the part, I have to buy a brand new set which is very expensive. Papenhausen not only answer me so many questions about kitchen faucet brands also reassure my confidence for Grohe. Not just that, Papenhausen Google and found the part for me.I offer to buy a Grohe new set from Papenhausen as a thank you gesture for the guiding light, but Papenhausen want to save me money and let me order the part on line myself.It's not just that, each staff is like the most kind human being love to find out answers and helping people, I truly love this store. For me, it's better than ordering from Amazon or go directly to Home Depot. & If they can't find something I need, they always point out direction.I stopped going to Target or Amazon for ward wares because even seeing these nice people in Papenhausen, make me feel San Fran is still wonderful.”

“Having had lived in San Francisco is my younger years, I never thought of paying a visit to this spot until some friends wanted to stop by. And I'm glad I did, because this is a pretty cool store. Walking in, you'll feel like you're taken aback in time and into one of those classic hardware stores, feeling like you're in an era when your parents or grandparents may have operated this shop. There's a street level and basement level for goods, and most of the items will be in the basement. Once there, you'll find lots of tea sets, ceramic plates, knives collections, traditional Japanese banners, and so on. Really random stuff here. It's not like an ACE hardware store, but lighter home hardware that you wouldn't find elsewhere. Worth a visit if you're in the area. Maybe you'll find something cute for gifts or for yourself.”

“The people there were attentive without feeling like one was monitoring you. Before leaving because I couldn't find what I was looking for I was stopped by a staff and he genuinely asked if I found everything I was looking for. My response was no and I went into detail what I was looking for. Afterward, he told me a relatable story and helped me find what I was looking for and it was much, much cheaper than buying it through Amazon. Rex, you are awesome and I greatly appreciate the relevant story and your assistance.”

“This is always been my go to spot. Well other hardware stores are closing. This place seems to be thriving. It has a great inventory for odds and ends and even essentials. The staff is exceptional.”

“This place is an amazing resource due to the expertise of Matt and Yutong. Matt is always on hand, and I was surprised to learn he works six days/week. Surely the management at Creative Paint can take better care of this valuable employee and expert advisor to us all.”

“Everyone is super nice and knowledgeable here, and the prices are so reasonable! I'm super shy but everyone here put me at ease. I was looking to create a fish tank cover with cutouts for my filter etc and Junior turned out also to be an aquarium enthusiast! I didn't come in with questions, but he educated me on the thickness of the acrylic meant to go under LED lights and heated water, whether or not it'll bow over time, how much light will pass through to my plants, and so on! He's so nice and patient, and made sure that my cover was the perfect dimensions. The cutouts are an additional $5 for each in addition to the price of the rectangular acrylic and the entire custom piece came out much cheaper than the pet shop.In addition, Edgar and one other person (sorry, I forgot his name!) helped answer questions about other pieces in the store and their customization. The plastic containers = food safe, great for use as travel bottles, and basically wholesale price--how could you beat that?”

“Needed some applewood pellets for my smoker. I called, they told me they stored the pellets away for the season but happy to check to see if they had the applewood. They did and brought up a bag from storage and had it at the counter for me when I came to pick it up. Needed it because I'm making homemade bacon”

“How do they squish so many things in there. The aisles are narrow. I'm afraid that person who sues stores for not having handicapped space might come in here. They have a "variety" (understatement). You want something, they must have it. They are part of ACE hardware store. Their kitchen ware is two doors down. Everything you need in the kitchen, except the sink.”

“Very friendly neighborhood building supply store. They carry a lot of stuff, including some hard-to-find items. They also carry HVAC supplies such as gas furnace (Carrier, Payne, etc.) with competitive price. I would highly recommend them. Thanks!”

“I don't remember names but the guys and one gal at Dunn-Edwards were great helping me find the right type of paint. I told them I did not know what the hell I was doing and from that point to about 15-minutes later-done. I went to my car to check in with neighbors and the painter and came back on the same day to pick up the paint, Apricot Glow.”

“Dukes is one of many great local neighborhood hardware stores. Never had a bad experience and is usually my go to store if I need small stuff like gaskets, silicone, etc for the home. Some employees have great advice and are always friendly and honest (from what I've seen so far).Prices are pretty fair on most items I bought and is sometimes the same or better than Home Depot or Lowes so you can save gas and support locals.”

“While I always enjoy going into Cole Hardware, Kevin really exceeded my expectations earlier this week. I had a major issue with paint spilling into my car and he was patient and kind - recommended the best products for me and helped me when I was in dire need. No more suburb hardware stores for me - it's Cole Hardware on Polk every time. Thanks Kevin - you're the best!”

“Walking through the Financial District these days is a pretty lonely experience. Fortunately there's an island of friendly helpful people and they work at Financial District Hardware. I suppose as much for security reasons as anything, staff are standing at the door to open it, greet you, and direct you to the exact isle where sought after items can be found. Of course if they don't have your item, they'll tell you that too so you don't 'waste anytime, but that's rarely been the case. The store is convenient to my home and all 14 people working in the Financial District, and I'm able to get in and out quickly, making my shopping experience a breeze. The only negative I can think of is that the prices are a bit more expensive than the box stores but the helpful service and convenience more than make up for the prices. Oh, and if you are thinking of driving there - don't.Overall, Financial District Hardware offers exceptional customer service and a great selection of products. While it may be a bit more expensive, the convenience and fantastic service more than make up for the prices. I would highly recommend this store to anyone in the area.”

She shared so much about plumbing fixtures that now I am able to distinguish when something has plastic or more of a metal component.Also, they have stock of different pieces, so you can probably make your selections -place the order- and take home what your contractor needs to continue with the framing and wall work.”

“I had to go pick up mice deterrent, so I went to J&J's on Geneva. As I was entering the store, the man outside the front door asked if I needed any help, I said of course. He stopped what he was doing, showed me a new product that I didn't even know existed, I got that. He also walked me over to the section for what I was looking for, he has such a large selection of products. I was so in awe as to how many different products for catching mice, that I forgot the damn traps. I did purchase a few items though. Have to go back today to get the traps. “I needed to have a security gate removed and reinstalled so a new washing machine and dryer could fit through the basement doorway. Alphonso and Melvin arrived before the scheduled time (which I appreciate) and worked fast and efficiently. Alphonso was kind to answer questions about metal security gate options. I have used this company in the past and always been more than satisfied with the owners, workers, the finished product and their work ethic.”

“After wasting time trying to get help from anyone useful at Lowe's (30 minutes on hold then they hung up when transferring me, and another 45 minutes driving over there ....to be told they can't get me what I want shipped from another store) I ended up here. They are cheerful, and helpful.Pros: You can pretty much get what you need here, and yes they will deliver if you order enough. They have a parking lot and wont yell at you for cutting sheetrock in their lot so it'll fit in your car...they'll even give you a utility knife and a T-square.They cut glass and wood. They don't run away when they see you. They will offer actual helpful advice when asked and if they don't know they won't try to snow you.They are a family business and not associated with any of the Evil Empire stores.They have sales which helps a little depending on what you need ( you can look up their sales online.)If you have Covid induced low frustration tolerance, this is your place. Easy to park, find what you need and check out.Cons:They cost more then any of the Evil Empire stores. But cheap friends, time is money and sometimes you just gotta pay more to support the Forces for Good ( and your mental health.)”

“Rick and his team replaced about 15 double hung and casement windows in our 1935 San Francisco home, and did a terrific job. They were careful and thorough in their preparation and their clean up, and the windows and hardware are great quality and work well. We are very pleased, and felt very comfortable with them during their work in our home. They were recommended by our neighbors, who had Rick replace a number of their old windows several year previously.”

“Went to this local shops for my home project, bought some cast iron fittings and pipes. Cast iron fitting are in good prices within inflation ranges (compares to big shop like home depot, they charge like crazy!). Pipes both have imported and USA to suit your need, I pick up the imported one, quite a budget choice compare to USA version, first glance, decent quality. They have lots of copper pipe and fittings too, seems like a handy place for our nearby neighborhood. Inflation killed a lots of small business, price got up like crazy everywhere. I try to support these small business as I can, comparing to big chain merchants like Home Depot they do not care price hiking.”
