My teenage son and I stayed at Castle Inn on a trip to San Fransisco. It was very close walking to many dining options as well as close to a convenience store to buy snacks/water to keep in the hotel room. It was also about a half hour walk to Fisherman's Wharf for a number of activities (like tour boat ride around the bay and Alcatraz tour) as well as many stores for shopping. Castle Inn provides parking, which was very helpful. There is a lower parking area beneath the hotel and a lot above ground. I only parked in the basement and found it to be very small and tight to manuever, so having a small car is certainly recommended. Our room was also on the small side with a small bathroom. With only two travelers, we managed fine, but if you're traveling with more people it could become cramped. Otherwise, the room was clean and offered everything we needed for a 3-night stay. The area is a little noisy being in downtown of a major city; however, one night was pariticularly bad with what sounded like street racing, luckily that was just one night and didn't last too long. The gentleman that checked us in was friendly and helpful providing a map with tips on where to go for food/stores.
Nearby activities: It was also about a half hour walk to Fisherman's Wharf for a number of activities (like tour boat ride around the bay and Alcatraz tour) as well as many stores for shopping and other restaurants.

Location is great, parking is convenient, value for money is great.
Hardly any contact with the staff (lock themselves in) is a bit impersonal, the beds were too soft for us.
We'd love to come back.
Rooms: Noisy and beds too soft. Very clean and good room service.
Safety: The area seems safe for San Francisco. Parking lot is under video surveillance.
Walkability: Public transport, laundromats, bars and shops can be easily reached in just a few minutes.
Food & drinks: Good restaurants and smaller shops in the area. But eating out is generally very expensive in San Francisco.
Noteworthy details: Buses are very cheap ($5 day ticket, young people free) and several lines are easily accessible. You don't need the subway in this location and CableCar is available as a day ticket with buses for $13 (you only do it for one day).

My wife and I stayed in a single bedroom at the Castle Inn for two nights and had a wonderful experience. The complimentary parking was incredibly convenient, especially since we were traveling to several locations along the coast, and we began our trip in San Francisco. It allowed us to easily go out and explore the city before returning to rest a couple of nights before checking out and going to our next city.
The service was excellent, and our room was clean and comfortable. We appreciated how close the inn was to various dining options, a laundromat, and a convenience store. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend the Castle Inn to anyone visiting the city.

I wasn't very happy with our room. If you look at the pictures in the other reviews, I also have the feeling that there are very big differences in the rooms. We probably really had the worst.
The hotel is overall okay. The location is great and there is video monitored parking. However, the staff more or less advised us against the underground car park because it might be too narrow for our Q5.
The room was quite old, but an attempt was made to make it modern. It was pretty cold at the end of May. We didn't want to turn on the heating because there was 1cm of dust in it. The room was on the street side (Broadway) and therefore very, very loud. Without earplugs I wouldn't have been able to sleep at night.
Ice machine was available. And check-in and checkout went without any problems. The bathroom was fine too.
All in all, it's still good for a 2-star hotel in this location. But you shouldn't expect too much and always keep in mind that this is a 2-star hotel.

I recently stayed at Castle Inn and had a great experience. The room service and front desk staff were super friendly and helpful. They made sure everything was taken care of promptly.
The hotel offers secure parking (no extra fee) and free WiFi, which was convenient. It’s also in a great location.
The room was clean and had all the essentials like shampoo and a hairdryer. The elevator worked well throughout my stay.
However, one downside was that the soundproofing could be better—I could sometimes hear noise from the next door and outside the room.
Overall, I had a comfortable and enjoyable time at Castle Inn and would definitely recommend it!

Castle Inn far exceeded expectations! My husband and I needed a budget-friendly place to stay with parking. I fully expected a simple, older motel. Castle Inn was way more than what I hoped for! The woman at check in, Versa, was incredibly friendly and helpful. She had a map of the city with personal notes prepared for us, and was so kind. The room was updated, clean, and comfortable. 10/10, don't judge this one by its cover!
Walkability: We set out to grab a metro to the things we hoped to see, but realized it was a similar walk to a train stop as it was to our first destination in Chinatown. The walk went by quickly, and Versa at the front desk helped immensely with directions and walking tips!
