Walked in out of curiosity after grabbing some things at Sherwin Williams next door. Bought some spices and lentils mostly because I wanted to support a small mom & pop shop. I regret it. I dropped almost $18 on a bag of lentils, bag of peppercorn and a bag of red chili flakes and come home only to discover the expiration date on the chili flakes was blacked out with sharpee (I could still vaguely make out the 03/2021 expiration date they tried to hide). The peppercorn? Looks like the expiration date tag was torn off. No expiration date to be found on the lentils. That's not how you get returning customers and it's too bad. I was hoping to support an ethnic grocery store in a town that is so homogeneously white.

Don't bother wasting your money here. Everything is extremely overpriced, the cashier is NEVER there on time (usually AT LEAST 20 mins. late every morning), he doesn't put his mask on unless someone is purchasing something at the counter, watches movies/tv as he is working (even as people are checking out), and to top it all off he has made MULTIPLE suggestive comments to me since he started working there. I could go on and on but in short - save your money and get MUCH better service at the Shell a block or two away.

First of all, I go in most of the time cause I live by there and every single time I feel the most uncomfortable, the guy that works there literally gives you the most uncomfortable looks and also smiles too much, it makes me feel so uncomfortable, and he also asked for my number first of all that's so unprofessional and I would never approve, always perverts when I come in as well

Variety is the spice of life, and Petaluma is lucky to have such a nice little Mexican mercado in the neighborhood. Casa del Palmar on E. Washington is both a small grocery and a carniceria. It must be really valuable to Mexican natives to be able to come here and find the brands of canned and packaged goods they were used to back home. In addition to processed foods, the market has a section of baked goods and a small produce department. I was so thrilled when I went to this shop recently and found they had the wooden tortilla press I had been searching for. It works like a charm and the friendly woman behind the counter told me she uses this model herself. Seriously, if you have only ever eaten store brand tortillas, you just don't know what you are missing until you make them from scratch, yourself. I can't imagine shopping for food at his market, myself, as my family eats organics and those seem few and far between at Casa Del Palmar. That being said, I am very glad that this store offers many things to our rich and diverse local population and a trip to this store is the next best thing to shopping in Mexico. You'll feel like you've taken a mini-vacation just wandering the aisles and seeing all of the interesting merchandise. Very enjoyable. Buena suerte, Casa del Palmar!
