The blond older lady who works at this location is extremely rude and a know it all. I don't know if she's the manager or just another associate but every time I try to get fish, it's like rocket science. My boyfriend and I are into aquascaping and have a lot of knowledge on fish and plants, as well as the environment and diets needed for them to sustain a good and healthy life. We have MANY tanks, with different breeds of fish and plants in each. Of course we research which aquatic animals can be together as well as the water parameters required for the fish and plants but apparently that knowledge means nothing to them here because they won't even sell to us anymore because of the knowledge im guessing they get from Wikipedia or google... Petco needs to step up their game, if customers clearly have knowledge on the animal, don't play 20 questions and then decide whether or not they're "fit" to buy them. You're not only going to lose out on a lot of business, but the fish are going to end up dying (mainly bettas) because they're living in literal cups. I will continue to buy only from small businesses because this is ridiculous.

Honestly I'm embarrassed FOR the light haired woman that runs this store. She's very fanatic about the bathroom and has legit interrogated me/ assumed I wasn't a costumer very rudely every single time I ask. How do you not step back and realize how embarrassingly bad of a look that is. It's very unpleasant to be looked up and down and have this woman make assumptions about me. However, Everyone else in the store is amazing and very insightful.

Maria went above and beyond great to get my Petco gift card to apply to my purchase. It was only $20 but when my wife tried to use it the staff could not get it to work. When I tried, Maria called corporate to get help. She was on the phone with them for at least 20 min. During this time she was often on hold and checked out other customers while we waited. Finally they were able to get me the credit. Thank you so much Maria!

Came in today to buy a specific brand of canned cat food. I found what I needed and was happy to see the cans were on special. I was also excited to find a coupon sitting on the shelf for 20% off the same brand. There were no lines when I was ready to pay and I was greeted immediately by the most helpful cashier. She is the reason the store is getting 5 stars. I didn't get her name (and it's not on the receipt)...she was attentive, happy to help me and extremely cheerful...She made the transaction easy and pleasant from start to finish! If management would like to contact me, I'm happy to give the information on my receipt to help figure out who she is so she can be recognized. This is not the closest Petco to my home but, based on my experience today, I will probably make this my go to store.

The young leopard geckos at this location are kept in a habitat with fine grain sand. I've pointed out on 5 different occasions now (very politely knowing they have no control over the situation) to multiple different cashiers that keeping them in fine grain sand is extremely detrimental to their health especially when young since they will likely ingest it and will keep them from eating properly and they can develop metabolic bone disease and other ailments. Every time I was assured management would be made aware but after a few weeks with no change I also made a complaint through corporate. A week later (tonight) I went in again to check on them (I don't normally shop here only when kahoots is closed since they take good care of their animals and recently only to check on this issue) I was scolded by a staff member for taking pictures as proof of this issue. This is clearly a very unhealthy animal and unfortunately buying them and surrendering them to a better facility would only encourage them to buy more that will be cared for in the same way. Just going to share this everywhere I can until your store cares enough to give the minimum effort and change the substrate to something not actively killing the animals you're trying to profit off of.

I brought my puppy here for his first grooming. I mentioned it was his first time so logically, he's going to be a little hesitant and nervous. He didn't require any significant work, I just needed help with his nails and de-sensitizing him to the brush. The communication was awful. We didn't receive a time for when he would be done upon intake, even though we asked. When we came back an hour later to check in a few things happened: 1) dogs who weren't there when we dropped him off were done while he was not (we had the first appt of the day) and 2) the girl wouldn't even let us in to ask about him. We waited in the store for another 30 minutes and went to ask for an updated timeline to see if we should stay or go home. Zoe rolled her eyes and visibly made comments about us to another staff member for coming back. A lot of people view dogs like children and just want to know they're taken care of, especially when they're puppies. Communication is key in any customer service experience and theirs was awful. Zoe was rude, unhelpful and ensured we will never bring our dog back to a Petco. I encourage you to find somewhere that will care about your experience.

I had an appointment at 10 am (I arrived at 9:45). Doors were open after 10 am today. When I asked the male cashier where the vet was since is never in the same place, he yelled at me as if I was bothering him. I was greeted By Miya which had me moved three times, only to have Sabrina enter my dogs data wrong (under another pet's name) and having people go ahead of me. F34k! How is it my fault that they are incompetent and rude. I was the first one outside, did not need or want stress due to cancer. Why have someone that came late go ahead versus fixing data asap. I am looking for a better place to take my dog trashy and no class people. CAN WE HAVE A SPANISH BILINGUAL STAFF!!!!

Completely incompetent did not have me sign mandatory paperwork to groom my dog and called me after 30mins why not call me immediately before I drove 30mins away!

They are very against Instacart, and employees are actually instructed to not help Instacart shoppers. I asked for an item that was not in stock, and was told, "I will help you on this but nothing else!". When I asked why, the employee said she'd get in big trouble for not helping. Very rude & I also asked other associates and found out that they ate in fact told not to help Instacart shoppers, because they ask for too much help. Plus, the item I was looking for had not been carried for 6 months. It was just an unbelievably horrible experience and they don't get that we are shopping for their customers. Please do not order Petco for delivery and Instacart shoppers, please do not accept. You will regret it. Awful store.

DO NOT BUY FROM THERE. I got a Happy Birthday bone from petco, and my dog had super bad diarrhea and threw up nonstop. I called petco, no refund, and my dog has been sick for a day. Took him to the vet, and they said it was because of something he ate. The only thing he ate that was out of his normal diet is the bone.

Went there to pick up some female guppies yesterday. The manager was dealing with some difficult customers while we waited. They were giving her a really hard time and we felt bad for her. While we waited we noticed one of the fish we were looking at had callamanus worm hanging from its anus (honestly they are easy to treat and it's impossible to expect a big box pet supplier to not have a sick fish or two cone from their supplier so we weren't bothered by it, but we didn't want to take that one home). When she came over to ask us if we needed help, my partner said we wanted to take four females but not the one with the parasite. Believe me, I realize that would fluster anyone, so I understood that she got a little huffy. But then she told us that bright red worm was p*** (this thing was fire truck red and way too long to be p**** And it was not detaching no matter how much the little fish swam around). She said pregnant fish have trouble with their p**** This fish had no enlarged belly and no dark gravid spot indicating pregnancy. I don't claim to be an expert but when all my fish including the four I brought home are pooping dark brown (including the two that do appear to be pregnant), I'm 99 percent sure that fish had a callamanus worm. To top it off the lady was annoyed that I wanted to pick out my own fish (because I wanted particular colors), and she just started netting them for me. I was too intimidated to speak up at this point so I just paid for what she gave me. The cherry on top was she interrupted the lady who was ringing me up to ask her to go help with something else... I've come here for years for all my pets (dog, cat, bird, guinea pig, etc) and after speaking to my friend who had a bad experience with her too, I've decided I won't continue patronizing this Petco.

I've called about twenty times to make a grooming appointment on multiple occasions and different days of the week. They don't answer their phones and don't return your voicemails.

We have two dogs and thought of the big two this was the one to beat. Call 5 times to make appt and.got usually BS Covid email that they were working unstaffed but would get back to me that day. The Oceanside never responded on my 6 calls. PetSMart who are unless I don't know something was quick to answer me and set up appt. They did excellent job and from now on Petco will be Nogo

I was in a tight spot, traveling from picking up my daughter's cat, needing litter and food. I called the 815 College location at 756 pm asking for help to make the closing hours (8) Alexandria was super helpful, taking the time to listen to what I needed and grabbed the items for me, having the items ready. I ran in 3 minutes after they closed and paid, showed her the pic of and thanking so much for understanding.Employee understanding, and helping me even though she didn't have to, so happy!-Naomi
