I go here a lot since it's so close to home and I love it! Routes are always fun, challenging, and creative. Staff is always super friendly and helpful. Not sure if it's just me, but I think the routes tend to be harder here than at other gyms (like Orange, for example). A V4 here often feels like it could be a 5 or 6 elsewhere. Could be just me though. Either way I like the challenge! Music is always on point here as well. The only complaint I would have about this location is its size. It's very small which makes it difficult to get around at times, especially on the middle wall. Somebody climbing anywhere on the middle wall basically makes it off limits for everyone else until they're done because the space is so small that if they fall nowhere in there is safe. Not usually a big deal though but if this place could expand into its neighboring buildings this would be the best location!

Intimate bouldering gym with good, varied route setting, friendly staff, and lovely regulars who are great beta partners. It's all-around good vibes. There's a good mix of climbs from cave to slab, crimps to jugs, and they have a kilter board for those days you want to abuse yourself. Grading difficulty has been creeping up in recent months which is bad for the ego but good for the body and actually prepares you legitimately climb at x grade level. They also have a couple of campus boards, and a small top out area with a handful of weights, a few pieces of exercise equipment, and hang boards.

Our first time taking the family rock climbing and it was so fun! They had different levels marked on the routes so you had courses you could follow your level then work your way up! Highly recommend! Even would be a good first or second date place to do something different!

I've been intermittently climbing at Hangar 18 and have been going between the Orange location and the Mission Viejo one. I really enjoy the Mission one for a multitude of reasons. The gym is smaller here, but the community feels more tightly knit together. The walls scale up a good distance while still providing a unique feel and climbing type for every different wall. They've recently been adding World Cup weeklies, which have been a blast to do. They use the v-rating system as opposed to the color system, which I feel helps narrow down the difficulty of a climb so you can be more accurate with your time. Overall, Hangar 18 has an amazing community of climbers. The staff is super helpful, and the day passes are affordable. Definitely check out Mission's gym if you're in the area.

The last time I was here the place smelled like gym socks that haven't been washed in a week,

Standard climbing gym. My only qualm was the lack of circulation in the building. Overall, it was a good experience and I can definitely see why the climbing community is so close knit.

Drove here since we were bored of the other Hangar 18 gyms. This one is quite small compared to other gyms, But I enjoy the top out climbs here. A lot of the climbs were quite enjoyable and I had more fun on these ones. Fun gym and I wouldn't mind coming back here again!

Small bouldering gym. I have a membership to Hangar and have been to almost all of them in the Southern California area. I believe this is the only one that has an app based climbing wall which is super cool to see. As with all Hangar 18s the staff and community is very welcoming and encouraging.

This place is great. It was my first time bouldering and I was nervous going on my own, so I signed up for the class. The employee that was there gave me a lot of great tips and made me feel really comfortable. I would highly recommend this place for first time climbers.

I had an overwhelmingly positive experience here. I was back in town for two months for the summer and wanted to try getting into something new so I decided to get a membership at Hangar 18. Membership was reasonable with a student discount, and gave me access to all locations. Though I did visit the San Clemente and Orange gyms, this review is for the Mission Viejo location. Even though this specific gym is smaller than the others, I never felt like it was excessively busy (I was usually coming at around 2 pm on weekdays so not sure what it's like after 5 pm), and I didn't find myself out of things to climb. Employees are super friendly/approachable (s/o to Hunter and Elainna), and I felt like there was a lot of variation and thought put into routes (even the lower grades that I was able to climb). I also found it really encouraging to watch strangers cheer each other on or to work on projects with other people. I never really used the top out gym area. At the end of the day, I'm grateful for the support and guidance I got from employees and other climbers! It was a great place/way for me to get into climbing, and I definitely learned a lot. tldr: awesome climbing gym, great sense of community, fun new routes every friday. would recommend.
