Using kiosks is challenging for elderly individuals and those who speak other languages. The lack of assistance makes it a significant issue. It's not a place I would like to visit, and I would especially not recommend it to elderly people.

Incompetent staff members who barely know English

Today, my father went to Quest Diagnostics at Virgil & 5th in Koreatown to have his blood drawn. I had made an appointment for him online, and since his appointment was at 9 AM, he arrived early and checked in at the kiosk. However, he wasn't called in until 9:40. He wanted to ask for help, but there was only one staff member drawing blood and no one else to assist him. The staff member was busy with other patients. A fellow patient, seeing my father struggling, tried to help him, but by then, 40 minutes past his appointment time, he couldn't check in anymore. My father contacted me, and I arrived at 10 AM. I asked the staff member for help, but she said she was alone and had to see patients, so she couldn't assist us. She seemed very busy handling everything by herself.
My father lives in Koreatown to ease the language barrier as a Korean. However, it is incomprehensible that, in the heart of Koreatown, a business operates with just one employee for drawing blood and no front desk staff, leaving only an electronic check-in kiosk. The other patients waiting there were also complaining. One said that they had been waiting for an hour and a half after walking in because she couldn't get through by phone to make an appointment and was told to book online, which she didn't know how to do.
Ultimately, my father had to check in as a walk-in and finally had his blood drawn at 11 AM, meaning he waited for two hours just for a blood draw.
How can a business like this run with only one employee? Is cutting operational costs more important than the time and inconvenience of the patients?
I cannot understand today's situation, no matter how hard I try. If you want to operate a business within a community, you should not only think about your profit but also care for your patients/customers.
Today, my dad went to Quest Diagnostic, Virgil & 5th (Koreatown) for a blood sample. I made a reservation in advance on the computer, and my dad had a reservation for 9 a.m., so he arrived before that and checked in at the kiosk, but I didn't call him until 9:40. My father wanted to call for help, but there was only one employee collecting blood and no one there, and that employee was busy collecting blood from patients. One of the patients who was seeing my father struggling helped him, but since it was already 40 minutes past the reservation time, he could no longer check in. My dad called me and it was 10 o'clock when I went. We asked the staff for help, but he said he couldn't help us because he was alone and had to see a patient. The employee also seemed to be very busy on his own.
The reason my father lives in Koreatown is to alleviate any inconveniences he may have with the language as a Korean. However, it is completely incomprehensible that while doing business in the center of Koreatown, rather than anywhere else, there is no employee at the front desk, only an electronic kiosk and one employee taking blood samples from patients. Patients waiting there also complained. When I called to make a reservation in advance, the phone did not connect and they asked me to make a reservation through the computer. However, since I am not good at using computers, I ended up having to walk in and wait for 1 hour and 30 minutes.
My father eventually registered again on the spot as a walk-in and completed the blood sample collection at 11 o'clock. I waited for 2 hours just to collect blood.
How can you run a business like this with just one employee? Are you saying that the company's expenses are important and the patients' time and inconvenience have nothing to do with it?
No matter how hard I try to understand this situation today, I cannot understand it. If you want to do business in the community, don't just think about your own interests, but also consider your patients/customers.

Went in today 5/29 at 10:30am to one be attended by a rude phlebotomist name Berecia (spelling might be off). The 1st and only thing she said (no hi) was that I'm supposed to make an appointment next time. In surprise, I responded that the website says walk ins welcome and so does the sign on the door, at which point she tried to change it up and say that I could come in w/o an appointment but the average wait time is 3-5 hours. This was the first time I walked in to this Quest and there was literally no one waiting. So when I asked her if walk ins are allowed the already nasty attitude became worse she became dismissive which directly resulted in how she drew my blood. This was one of the most painful draws that I could remember and I am sure that she did it on purpose. My veins are thick and strong and I have never felt what I felt today. I even told her during and after on how ironically painful it was. Zero , absolutely zero cares given or even acknowledgement that she heard me. She by no means should be in the patient care environment. Clearly she hates her job or circumstances. Quest you can do better !! Hire better !

When the syringe did not extract blood, instead of taking out the needle and retrying, the technician wagged it around! Why are they hiring people who clearly have no training?

Had to go to several over many days. Walk ins wait time in both La Mirada locations were a 4 hours wait at 8 am on two different days. Need Saturday or extended hours on some days.
Was finally able to on a sick day at work schedule a same day appointment at the Korea town location.

There are 5 people working, but only 1 person taking patients their system is automated but not accurate, I arrived 10 minutes late with my elderly mother. Paul… who works there told me because I was late I have sign up as a walk in. Another lady comes in 10 minutes late and the same person just takes her in even though she was also late. I was fine until after 30 minutes after waiting, when they call people who walked in later then us. I asked why are people who came after us being helped and not us. They said we didn’t sign in and Paul…. was the one who directed us in signing in.
A young lady taking patients I asked why we’re not being helped and has been more than 1 hour. She says “priority for people with appointments and it could take a lot longer than 1 hour. The system says 30-60 minutes of wait. This place needs people that can do their job right. I don’t know how this QUEST DIAGNOSTICS is letting and paying to these employees. I will never use QUEST DIAGNOSTICS For any type of tests, at least not at this location.

Even though it was a long wait it was worth the wait Pauline and the other staff didn’t catch all of their names were nice and patient and fixed a mistake another staff did at the other Beverly office. They were fishing for a vein on a 4 year old and said it was his fault that they didn’t take the allergy test only the blood work for physical he had an allergic reaction and we had to wait almost two weeks to get results.

I thought I had made an appointment but it wasn't in the system when I got there. Only waited about 20 min though & the woman who took my blood did an amazing job with my tiny , rolling veins! Thank you!

Staff is always polite and VERY WELL TRAINED: I NEVER get bruises at this site. Really appreciate that. Staff is very patient with some of the challenging personalities that show up.
