I first began shopping here when I was in elementary school and I would beg my mother or my grandmother to take me. There is a reason I continue to shop here today for my groceries. Diablo Oriental Foods has been an essential way station for Japanese-American families in Contra Costa for many years, providing specialty Japanese and Asian ingredients you can't find at many larger chains.

This rating is mostly for the sandwich we had at the deli counter but also for the lack of a bathroom. We ordered the porker sandwich from the deli which was overall a good sandwich, but it really didn't live up to the name and the description. We were expecting freshly "fire roasted pork" per the description, but the meat was just basically regular deli ham. Don't get me wrong ingredients were good, well-prepared by the friendly staff but it wasn't a unique sandwich by any means. It really could have just been called a "ham and cheese sandwich with avocado." The potato salad was good. We appreciated that they have so many staff on hand and the market as a whole has very nice selections. But again they need a bathroom for customers.

I love this place, from the deli/meats, hot foods, fruits & vegetables, and all other grocery options of unique and common items. I love walking through the store, a smaller store, but it feels great walking the aisles and window shopping. Cashiers are always friendly, and usually pleasant to converse with.The only issue for me is sometimes the price of common items may be more than a chain market, but I select smartly.

Fine market. I got some great steak at their butcher shop who was very helpful. Prices are a bit higher than you'd find in most other grocery stores in the area but still a solid spot

Terrific local grocery store in Lafayette that continues to excel with outstanding service; high-quality produce, fruits and meats; and a wide range of other products, including an excellent range of wines and specialty items, with new products introduced routinely as well. We especially enjoy the deli for their made-to-order sandwiches as well as many of their packaged sides and meals. The store is always clean and bright, and while it may be a higher price point than other grocery stores, Diablo Foods brings a high level of quality and service.

The best overall market in the area without having to drive over to Berkeley! Top quality produce, fish, poultry, beef. Great catering options for small venues. Florist department truly delivers! While not the low cost provider the higher prices are well worth the splurge!
