Now I understand why so many people i know go to this vet. This place is amazing. Everyone is so nice and more importantly they really care and we're so great with my dog Otis. My regular vet was unexpectedly closed and I am so happy that I was able to get into see this vet. 10 stars!!!

This animal hospital has been around as long as I can remember. I tried switching to one that was cheaper and realized it was a disgusting mess. It was a complete revolving door and nobody really cared. I ended up coming to this veterinarian again, and though I got a senior discount, it was still a little more than I thought I could afford, but she recommended that I take my cat my beautiful Persian therapy cat over to another vet that dealt specifically with eye issues. it didn't work out over there after they took $389 for the isit they wanted over $6,000 more to fix his eye! Four days later my cats eye began to blow up. I called over to Newport Harbor Pet Hospital and they immediately took my precious cat in. Thanks to them he is alive and healthy with the stitches out and doing great.I can't think of a better place that I would ever go and it's worth every dime I had in order to get the care he needed. Thank you so much!

Updating my 2012 review. I can honestly say our pups' second family is the entire staff at Newport Harbor Animal Hospital. That's how much love we have for them. Dr. Ashbran has taken care of ALL of my dogs. When my first rescue pug was diagnosed with cancer, I was so heartbroken. I was shocked to find out Dr. Ashbran was too. He had told me how choked up he got when he saw the results. However, Kendall (she no longer works there but man she was one of my favorite OG girls!) mentioned to me that Dr. Ashbran took a day to process/grieve the news himself before letting me know. That really touched me. When my husband and I started dating, I introduced him to NHAH and Dr. Ashbran. My husband will now go NO WHERE ELSE for vet care. Dr. Ashbran is in his own league. He uniquely has the ability to comfort, explain, teach, and deliver sympathy during EVERY interaction. It's reflected in the amazing staff he hired - the other doctors here are just as knowledgable and kind. The kennel attendants take SUCH great care of our pups as well. I get photos from them on the texting service because they know how much I appreciate seeing those photos. Stephanie, their social media person (she's won photography awards!!!) goes above and beyond to connect to all clients there. Because she knew I like receiving photos of our pups when they are boarded there, she passed along the info to the kennel attendants. Salt of the Earth GREAT people with huge hearts work here. We have moved further away but will make the drive to Costa Mesa because you cannot put a price tag on the level of service, care, and love for animals here. We are loyal customers for life!!!! A million times thank you for loving our pups as much as we do!

I was recommended to Dr. Ashbran by an employee at Irvine Specialty Hospital (Blue Pearl). I had just found out my cat of 15 years had IBD (previously diagnosed), which had progressed to cancer. The staff at NHAH tried their hardest to assist me, and my family with her end of life care while working with Dr. Tanzey at Blue Pearl. Dr. Ashbran sent me and my family a HANDWRITTEN sympathy card. When I worked in a small veterinary clinic in the mid to late 90's, I drafted, and signed the sympathy cards to our clients. This is a hard field to be in, especially during pre and post pandemic. My family and I still joke that if you need a qualified human doctor, call the vet! After the loss of Bella my boyfriend surprised me with another kitten he named, "Willy". Even though I was not financially or emotionally ready for another animal, Dr. Ashbran and the staff have been super helpful, patient and responsive to my concerns. Please be patient and kind to any employee in the Veterinary field - most of the negativity that occurs in this field is out of care, concern, and compassion for your "fur baby". Most importantly, use common sense. I definitely recommend Dr. Ashbran and NHAH!

I'm deeply saddened and disappointed by the way my senior dog and I were treated at Newport Harbor Animal Hospital these past few days. The front office staff were discourteous, unempathetic, bent the truth, and were more focused on their own feelings than those of my distressed pet. They lacked attention to detail and neglected to address the concerns about the severity of my pet's pain. Even the vet who treated my pet - Dr. Osborne - was condescending and appeared more interested in her treatment plan and diagnosis than the well-being of my dog, She additionally brushed off any input I had about my 16 year dog and admittedly failed to conduct a thorough examination of her, therefore unable to adequately gauge my pet’s pain level. Dr. Osborne also provided me with contradictory information about my pet's condition. She advised me to take my pet immediately to the neurologist (she did tell me to make an appointment but didn't sound urgent about it) if case worsened, but then condescendingly contradicted herself by asking if “I remembered” that the treatment would take several days to work. She likes to say “remember I told you”. This was incorrect information anyway as treatment plan should not have taken over 24 hours to take effect. Furthermore, she even tried to shame me financially. When finally trying to get a second opinion from a new vet, she attempted to shame me there as well. Thankfully it didn’t work. Overall, this is a bad practice with a lack of care, thoughtfulness, and possibly knowledge. Dr. O did not see the urgency of my senior dog's case, did not treat it as an emergency, and sadly it was. I strongly advise against visiting Newport Harbor Animal Hospital. Side note- the technician failed to administer PAIN medication properly and it was found stuck in her tooth. Also, when I picked her up, after suffering silently all day, I noticed her little bottom and tail had dried feces stuck to it. I was unable to clean well as it was too painful.

Do not go here. They will nickel and dime you on the invoice. Lots of hidden charges.Very expensive place and it’s nothing great or special. One kid that worked there in the front said my dogs were going to die!! He was so mean with an attitude. The Management has the same nasty attitude . I was a customer here NOT ANYMORE!!The front office staff and the doctors are always changing over. Which says a lot! NHAH is way overpriced for the service they give. Save your money and go somewhere else.I would never recommend this place .

So many great things to say about this vet group. I've had Dr Robertson and Dr Wade- both have been really great. Every vet tech has been super sweet and had a great bedside manner with my puppy, George. We have been in 5-6x for a variety of issues and each time, they have spent time with me answering any questions and being very thorough. I never felt rushed and always left feeling like we had accomplished a lot. The staff at the front is super friendly and helpful. I love that I can text them to schedule appts or ask questions and they even remind me to pick up George's medication. It is really full service and (if) the prices are higher, which I'm not sure they are, it is totally worth it to me. I especially love that they have long hours of operation so I can get in before or after work. I've already recommended this vet group many times.

I just love Newport Harbor Animal Hospital! I have had only positive experiences. They take care of my 4 cats and they are very gentle, kind, and caring of my fur babies. I couldn't ask for a better Veterinarian help. Their prices are very reasonable and their front office staff are kind too. Can't recommend them enough.

I regret ever boarding my dog at Newport Harbor Animal Hospital due to severe signs of neglect. The management failed to care for our dog during her extended stay at NHAH, or to make the situation right. I thought that my Yorkie mix would be safe being boarded at a Veterinary hospital, but this was not the case. After a three week stay my 9 year old girl came back with over 20 massive and matted dreadlock-like clumps of hair, chew marks from removing her own mats, a rash covering her entire belly, and both ears infected. I am including just a few of the pictures we took in the post. Newport Harbor Animal Hospital never once contacted me during her stay, to let me know of my dog's accumulating condition. They did, however, give our Himalayan cat that I was boarding as well, expensive flea medication without my permission, after texting that they had found "flea dirt" (not fleas, flea dirt) on him. So I know they could have provided care/attention to my pup, but neglected to. When I returned home with my pets and discovered my dog's matting, rash and ear infections, I called to speak with the manager Gina about the issues. Gina became defensive, irate, and outright rude over the phone. I asked to speak with anyone else and she reminded me that she was the manager, Gina raised her voice and when confronted with the signs of my dog's neglect and my issue with their failure to notify me at any time - she told me "we're not a grooming service" - letting me know this Veterinary Hospital does not want to be held accountable for signs of neglect or the actual conditions of pets under their care. NHAH is even next door to a great pet grooming parlor we have used several times and with permission, can facilitate pickup and grooming services from the Vet Hospital upon request. I then requested a refund for the canine boarding fees due to the extremely poor condition of my doggo. She kept talking over me, made no attempts to resolve the issue and ultimately hung up the phone on me. After hanging up on me, the manager sent an email attempting to gaslight me to cover the tracks of her conduct. She claimed she was forced to hang up on me because she "wasn't allowed to speak", and "would have offered a grooming" but I was "too rude" over the phone. In the email, Gina informed me that I am no longer welcome at Newport Harbor and that I would be terminated as a client. After claiming NHAH don't do anything for matted fur as "they are not a groomer" in our phone conversation, in the email she changed her story and said someone cut a single mat off at one point, upon discovery. This attempt at deception and covering for herself is appalling - it should be easier to find a way to make the situation right. This attempt at gaslighting a client after harmful neglect of an animal leads me to believe Gina knew very well she was in the wrong, but it was more important to cover her tracks with her email than to care for my dog. This is why I firmly believe this place is a danger to animals in their care. It gives the impression this wasn't just neglect - they could really care less about the health and safety of animals in their care.

If you care about your pet or your bank account avoid Newport Harbor Animal Hospital at all cost. Every interaction and/or transaction I've had with NHAH is an almost comical parade of errors, and then they take it personal when you patiently try to straighten out an issue with them, for example, them charging your account for someone else's pets procedure or visit for the fourth and fith time. I could honestly list a dozen plus instances where they have screwed the pooch as it were, but what's the point, just go someplace better for your pet and for yourself

I previously brought in a puppy for a general health exam, and the vet told us he's completely healthy, with no concerns. Shortly after, he began to get SICK, so we decided to take him back. Upon arrival, they told us they actually got our puppy's tests MIXED up...and he turned out to have parvo. So they gave us another puppy's results instead of ours. Our puppy ended up staying 2 out of the 5 days and sadly passed away. Should we have caught it faster, he may have had a chance. Although the staff was apologetic, it was really upsetting that we wouldn't have had the correct results unless we had another visit.

Well I see I'm not the only one who is completely and utterly disgusted with this practice. I gave them a four-star review for sub-par service and care and I was promptly fired as a customer by the practice manager, Gina - who by the way is rude and disrespectful. Pretty amusing since I would never, ever return to this place. But she hung up on me when I pointed out the audacity of such a ridiculous move on her part - especially since I would never go back there. Huge operation meant to make money but does it with no soul or compassion. The vets don't care at all and there's a sense of entitlement from staff - especially people like Gina. Stay away from this practice if you want to keep your pets alive and healthy.

NHAH has been so incredible to us! Ever since our pups first (and luckily only!) emergency, they have been an incredible support to us. As our pup is now older dr Osborne has been a great help in trouble shooting hip issues. She is so kind to our rescue pup and the staff is always professional, positive and kind. I love that they have extended hours and you can always text instead of sitting on hold. Their prices are competitive and I would (and do!) recommend them to everyone!

In November 2021, Dr. Mark McDaniel with the help of the staff at Newport Harbor Animal Hospital and consultation from some of the other vets there saved our doggy baby Lily from pericardial effusion and transferred her to Pacific Care Pet Emergency since Newport Harbor was not open 24/7 to handle a case like Lily's. Nevertheless, they stabilized Lily so that she could be brought to 24/7 emergency care at Pacific Care and identified the pericardial effusion. Lily lived fighting off the associated non-preventable heart disease for another nearly 2 years. Thank you so much, Dr McDaniel and everyone else during that period, from Beach Paws Pet Salon that brought her after she collapsed during grooming, to Pacific Care and Coast-to-Coast Cardiology for bringing Lily to a point where she could come home, have a good quality of life, and live for another nearly 2 years.
