I had a excellent experience both purchasing a car from CarMax Costa Mesa and returning it during the 30 day return period. Both experiences were great. The purchase was smooth, easy to understand and the steps were quick and easy to complete. The sales rep was able to get me a lower interest rate on a loan than I was able to get myself and I was able to complete the entire purchase within 2 hours. The return was just as simple and took less than 1 hour. It was a significantly better experience than any used car dealership I've had to deal with in the past.

This dealership is a joke, avoid selling cars here at all costs, especially if it's a sports car. Brought my hellcat here for an appraisal and they told me they needed to drive the car to test it out, then I heard somebody ripping my car through the streets and so naturally that pissed me off. To let an employee drive a 700+ hp car and hear them flooring it on busy streets is absolutely mind boggling. Still yet to hear back from corporate about the situation too. What a joke, stay away at all costs.

Two drivers in the family, finally and lovin' the new car! Wonderful experience at Carmax. This is my second purchase of a Carmax car. My first was back in 2013 and I remember it being so easy and that little Ford Escape ended up being the best car that I ever owned (until I got T'ed be a kid on a cellphone). Because of my first great experience with Carmax, I returned for a second. This time, my child was looking to purchase. As I am recently widowed, I was stressed about the process, not having someone to help us with important decisions. Hard on my kiddo too, purchasing a car without her dad. But hoped for the best and was not disappointed. We had made an appointment earlier to test drive a car and were met by Tyrus, our sales rep and I was thrilled with the service we received. He had the car clean and ready for us and after a test drive, we fell in love with it and began the purchasing process. I think it's a benefit, he had a daughter and could tell we were going at this on our own. Have to say he was like a "stand in dad" for my kid. He made the process quick and simple and when he handed over the car, he reassured us we could call anytime for help with car issues or anything that could arise. A+++ service. Other pros: facility was clean, as well as the bathroom. Don't know the guy's name that processed our paperwork but he was supersweet too. Good experience all around and when we are ready for an upgrade, Carmax will always be the first call we make. Many thanks to Tyrus!

Great experience with this business. We sold our Toyota SUV and got a decent offer. Better offer than competitors. Francisco was the staff person we worked with. It was easy from start to finish. Would definitely recommend this place to everyone. Just plan on setting aside 2 hours.

I went to buy a SUV. I went and I saw the Jeep Chrokee. Miguel helped me in the process of buying the car. Each question I had over the purchase of the car he answered. I recommend for when you go to ask for Miguel he talks both English and Spanish!

Bought a vehicle from here noticed an issue with the vehicle after leaving the lot. Came back the next day to be service was closed for the weekend and they would resolve first thing Monday morning. The solution they provided was they can set an appointment to fix it over a week out when they clearly messed up by not doing a vehicle pre check before selling the vehicle

I bought a 2020 Jeep Compass from Carmax in 2021 with 26,000 miles on it. As of Thanksgiving week of this year, 2023, the transmission needs to be replaced at a cost of $8,000 with a 6 to 8 month waitlist. So I called Carmax to see what options I had, given my warranty expired at 75,000 (that was 50,000 miles of my drive time). I spoke to an agent who said Carmax could do nothing except perhaps buy it back and given I still owed on the loan I would have to have that added to any car loan I would take out. Also the agent said try your comprehensive insurance which I have, but I guess he was uninformed that it covers an event like a fire, flood, vandalism, not a part that wore out. A friend who bought a car in 2016 also had the transmission fail. So I am incredibly disappointed in the quality of the vehicle they sold me and their reluctance to explore their liability in selling a vehicle that did not hold up. I am a 77 year old woman whose last car, an Acura, I had for 26 years and the mileage when I sold it was 386,000 and the transmission was just fine. The only positive thing that Carmax offers is a wonderful Finance Department who will work with you within their policy boundaries. My message: Buyer Beware!

I made an appointment to sell my car before getting to CarMax and although 2 hours is not a lengthy time. It could’ve went quicker. I received a semi-decent price for my vehicle, although they lowered the quoted amount due to paint issues. I purchased the vehicle from them 7 years ago with the majority of those paint issues already on it. They wouldn’t lower the price when I was purchasing the car but of course they lowered the price buying it back from me. On a good note, the office staff were very nice and courteous.

The two cars I was interested in were brought in from more distant Carmax locations. In my opinion this service is a big plus. The test drive experience was smooth and stress free with no salesperson in the car. (Although I would have liked another 10 minutes) Ultimately, I chose the car with fewer options and lower mileage.

This place is is so bad I had to leave a review before getting out of their parking lot. Don’t waste your time taking a car over there to sell. I had a bunch of appraisals from other dealers and these guys were 20 to 30% under everyone else. On top of that appraisals, take 45 minutes to an hour, versus 20 minutes at a dealer. The Kelley blue book instant offer beats this group, hands-down.

Our first time with CarMax and it was such a good experience that all future car purchases for our family will be made with CarMax. Our Salesperson was excellent but so were all the staff. Efficient, attentive and great follow through. CarMax sets the standard for Customer Service.

Sold my car without any hassle. The internet quote was honored. Uploaded all the required info on the website. Showed up at my appointment time and was on my way home with check in hand within a half hour. Excellent, friendly service.
