I purchased membership for the Sunrise Pickleball club and went to Rusch park courts couple of days ago. I was disappointed with several things and felt unwelcomed. There was no distinction between members and non members. I did not see anyone wearing membership bands. People had come in groups and I waited for almost 30min waiting to play but couldn’t get into any game. What’s the point of membership? The restrooms were locked. The parking lot was not well lit and I saw homeless in the parking lot and trailers. Honestly I wasn’t comfortable parking there but had no choice. I hope I get back my membership refund as I don’t think I’ll ever come back to this place.

Great courts, come with a group or you will not play. There are 12 courts and they are lit. There is only 1 of the 12 designated for public play. If you play on the other courts you will be policed by the club and kicked out. My friend and I were kicked out because they didn’t like how we looked. If you plan on playing here don’t expect any court time unless you pay the dues which have increased from 20 to 100 in the last few years.

I was visiting family in the area and decided to check out the PicklePlay at Rusch Park. While it’s a public park, you must be a member to play in the club-designated courts; there are public courts for non-members but you’ll have to bring your own group. The competition was very good but my initial experience was that people were not welcoming or friendly towards visitors or guests. I decided to practice my serves by myself in one of the public courts and fortunately other members reached out and invited me to play for which I was very grateful. While I am an advocate for club membership in order to organize play and enhance the overall experience, there should be a free guest policy for players who are visiting. The competition was definitely worthy, but the negative initial reception was so off-putting and un-welcoming that I would play elsewhere where the people are more friendly and inclusive. For me, it’s not just about playing well, it’s about fun and community.Club Drop-In Play ScheduleSunday-Friday7:00 AM-12:00 PM5:00 PM-10:00PM

Our Saturday morning workshop with Maria was so good. I am so grateful for the time she spent with us and for her care for generating interest in pickle ball.
