“The rise of dollar stores in this country over the past couple of decades is likely a concept that will be studied in business schools for generations to come; after all, for us GEN Xers and older, who grew up with Pic N Save, Big Lots, Kmart, and other large discount stores, the concept is not exactly new even if the square footage and floor plan is novel. But I suppose I'm getting a little academic, and probably ahead of myself for the firstreview that yet exists for this little Dollar General store in the northeastern parts of Arkansas. We stopped nearby to top off our diesel tanks and a couple of cans, and hunt around for DEF (I'm still not used to that extra expense, but I guess it just comes with the territory...) since the truck and trailer were already stopped next-door, we wandered over here to look for snacks and drinks, and found plenty inside. As it turned out, the smaller Dollar General had a pretty substantial display of chips, sweet treats, soft drinks, and some shelf stable food. It kind of made me wonder if this DG, like so many other that have sprung up in small towns across the United States... At least as much as our road trips have shown us... Is the primary source of food for some of the local residents. I may never know that, but in the simplest of terms, this is sort of a one stop shopping spot for your essentials, that is if your expectations for variety are not too high, and you don't use fancy shampoo. A cursory inspection of the store showed that it was well-stocked, well-maintained, and the folks running the place are the usual kind of kind you come to expect when you get away from the big cities of this nation. Country hospitality and kindness have not failed me yet in more than 40 years of traveling around. I can't imagine when we will be back through this little neck of the woods, but like so many other places we've visited, good people are where are you find them, and a quaint little store that can meet your basic needs at a bargain price is always welcome in my life, whether I'm on vacation, working, or whatever that thing is that I do sort of between the two.”
