Living outside of Anchorage, I find myself making monthly trips there doing the bulk of my shopping at Costco. And while Three Bears obviously carries many Costco items, they are often the same price or a small markup. Their sales can be really good, and they have a large variety of things you can not find at Fred's or Carrs.
The milk they carry is the best I've ever had outside the farm! Definitely check out their freezer section for seafood deals. And they regularly discount new firearms for less than sticker price.

I have never been so humiliated in my life. I am a senior citizen with a snap card. The way it works is the items covered are paid then the rest not covered is the amount I owe and cover with my credit card. This cashier made sure that the whole store knew I was using a snap card and made it almost impossible to pay my bill. I had the funds to pay. But she made sure that everyone knew i need public assistance. What an embarrassing situation.
