We stayed in Mentone during the "off season" I guess. When we asked a shop owner for a recommendation for food, she swore by Helena's. I was not impressed, at all. After you order you go outside across the parking lot and into the gas station to pay for your food. The food took forever and honestly, was not that great. Don't order the patty melt. It is NOT a patty melt. It's a chopped up flavorless hamburger patty on dry white bread.

We were in Mentone and wanted to grab a sandwich and fries before going back to the cabin. We had also got an order of fried peppers. The cook was nice and we got our food pretty quick

The food here is really good. The new owner is very friendly and nice. The store side looks amazing compared to what it used to look like. Kippy has a lot more items, snacks, and drinks to choose from. He also even made sure he ordered my brand of cigarettes and keeps them stocked for us. Love this place !!!

While visiting the Mentone, Alabama area, my wife and I selected Helena’s Deli for dinner after reviewing their menu options and some of the reviews on Tripadvisor and other websites. Indoor seating is available but most of the customers which we encounter were getting their orders to go. When we arrived, we were promptly greeted by the only staff member who was working as a cook, runner, waitress, etc. I selected a club sandwich and fries which I really enjoyed. When my wife ordered a grill chicken sandwich, the staff member promptly informed her that she did not know how to make a grilled chicken sandwich before suggesting a fried chicken sandwich, which my wife didn’t like after taking a few bites. The deli and grocery area are divided from each other by a wall. After ordering the food, we were given a check and asked to pay at the grocery register. It was obvious that the staff member working the deli needs some additional training and experience.

If you are looking for a good burger or a good Philly Cheese Steak, then you have found the spot. There is plenty of parking available nearby. You seat yourself at a table and the wait staff brings a menu quickly. It is basically a grill type menu with the typical sides. The food is served right off the grill and it is hot and delicious. We were in a group of 10 and tried a variety of the sandwiches. All were good. We did not try any of the desserts as we had those at our rental. The prices are reasonable. You can pay with cash or credit card. Payment is next door at the gas station so you need cash for a tip as this is not added to the credit transaction.

Not worth the money. The barbecue plate had just a little bit of meat. The French fries were only half cooked and cold. The hamburger steak was like rubber. The pizza, well if you can call it pizza was terrible. The bread that came with the meal tasted old. We spent 45 dollars and most of it went into the garbage. The people were very friendly though.

Burgers at Helenas are always good! Side salads, while simple, are fresh and crispy. Breakfast is good too!
